I have a pair of Cortech saddle bags that I like to use when I need to carry more items than will fit in the top case. Two main problems, more difficult to put the scooter onto the center stand and I can't get the scooter into or out of the garage with them on - not enough room between the car and the garage. And, because the stick out so far, I won't put them on if I need to use the freeway/Interstate.

I've had them on my scooter since the winter of 2006 and they've been there ever since...sun, rain, snow, gloom of night and all that.
They've lost their shape a bit, the buckles are a bit rusty, and they are a bit faded. But they've seen thousands of miles and several years of daily use so, no complaints. It looks like I'll get a lot more years out of them, too. Tough little SOB's. The downside: Yes, pretty small. The straps you see are adjustable, but you don't need to buckle the cover open and closed: There is a plastic quick-release clip under the straps to do the job easily. This pic is from a ride I took last weekend. |

Alice wrote: Those bags look like they would damage the paint ... do they? I don't wash and wax my scooter as often as I should, either. I would imagine if you let grit stay between the bag and the finish you would have a problem. Since the bags are held against the sides with magnets sewn into the material, I just lift them up occasionally and wipe the contact area down with a soft cloth. I guess you would have to do the same with any other style of saddlebag that rests against the finish, too. |

I noticed that there was another thread where the size of the SX saddlebags was mentioned/bemoaned. I finally found a moldy old post of mine responding to a similar question so I am going to quote... me If for no other reason than to save me from having to go outside and measure them again...

And any odds and ends that I don't need to lock down. Whatever. It's no good for notebooks, laptops, etc. Too small. This should help: Figure about 13-1/2" to 14" wide and 7-1/2" to 8" high. They are not square. About 2-1/2" deep, but flexible. It doesn't sound like a lot, but the room really comes in handy. They are made of substantial material, but I wouldn't consider them waterproof. Also note: These bags have verrrry strong magnets sewn into the lining. I don't know how or if this would effect computers or similar devices, but I don't take the chance. Loose items that you don't want to tie down...yup...that's what they are best for. Hope this helps. |

I would be afraid of paint damage from friction. I just have a backpack that holds quite a bit if i need it. As long as i pack it right it works just fine.
