Why does everyone find the idea of a scooter speeding so funny?

I don't, 3 points and a £60 fine.

Oh, and on the off chance the tiny rider of the tiny chinese scoot that was going through Giffnock at about 8.30 am this morning is reading... 3ft off the rear of a car doing 30mph is not smart or clever. And wear boots, Docs, Converses whatever, either will be better than sandshoes and bare ankles.

I'm not smarter or cleverer, I just happen to be a year ahead in the oops-shit school of scooting !

Learning the painful lessons so you don't have to

My sympathies - but to get caught speeding one's observation skills must be below par...

I agree mirrors wouldn't have helped here - or was it a Plod car behind you? Razz emoticon

bog off!

They caught me at 400m+ out , on the exit of a bend, over a section where my attention is on the 2 (very) minor junctions and the quality of our fine roads needs watched.

It was a fair cop, I was cool with them and they were cool with me.

Point not addressed, why do folk think a ticket for speeding on a scoot is funny?

Kojak with a kodak on the brow of a hill, caught me exiting a corner, waved me down.

No mirrors required

Okey-doke.

I've never found anyone finding it funny, what makes you think anyone does, or did Plod make some remarks?

Just every one at work and the wife!

There seems to be a perception that bikes are ridden by road warriors,
That scoots are ridden by mods and pensioners (insert joke here)

Scoots can also be ridden ninja stylee

If they did it wouldn't be very ninja-like. You can't know what you don't see.

Sorry you got caught by the fuzz! I have to be really careful for a good portion of my route as I ride right by our Central Precinct and the satallite offices where our fine men and women in blue do their paperwork and swap stories about taking down crazy-eyed perps. Luckily, the 300 slows down very nicely on decreased throttle alone without the tell-tale sudden brakelights!

Laminate the ticket and put it inside your glovebox as proof to the naysayers!

And vice versa.

I managed 37,000 Hayabusa miles with only two speeding tickets...quite remarkable considering the bike probably hit 100 mph at least once during any given ride...often substantially more.

By contrast, I have one speeding ticket in 15,000 miles of 650 Burgman saddle time, averaging about the same miles-to-ticket ratio for each bike...so my hooliganism apparently carries over to whatever I'm on.

I would likely get tagged on a Vespa every 15,000 or so too.

There's no escaping myself, it appears. Nerd emoticon

almost as bad as...
"Just every one at work and the wife...."

...getting caught nearing tripple digits in a Mini-Van....

That kinda pain is second only to the sting of the fine.

-Ouch!

because people who don't ride scooters view them as toys. to them it would be like getting a ticket on a big wheel.

prius envy
I had the same problems with people/co workers poking fun at me and my prius. Nobody thought the prius could even go on the highway. In my case it was arrogance.
Id imagine its the same with scooters.

Happens to the best of us. I got pulled over doing 80 in a 65 a few months ago, cop appeared out of nowhere.

When we were safely off the freeway, he got out of his cruiser and swore (in a friendly way -- I was lucky) that he didn't know scooters could go that fast. I convinced him that nobody would believe his "fish tale" of a scooter doing 80, so he wrote me a ticket for not yet having the plates on the (still new) bike, which was a fix-it ticket.

Whew!
