Vintage vespa p200e - $800 (Chantilly ,va)

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/mcy/5039925862.html

some skinhead got hit and you can buy his bike. was running a search for an s150 for my girl (who suddenly wants a scooter after 3+ years of dating) and saw it. I've got two p's, no room, and am overseas. Someone pick this up, it'd make a solid cutdown and may have some kit work on it.

$800 for a mangled "non repairable" titled scoot with 23k miles? Doesn't sound like a DoD to me.

Here's what is a deal of a lifetime... RetroGuy's scooter, P125, pretty nice, engine might need seals eventually..... $1600

That 125 is pretty much being given away. I would be amazed if it's still available.

meh. (potentially kitted) p200 > (stock) p125, no matter who owned it or how many carb videos they posted.

A fender swap and some de-denting the legshield is 'by for the race' on a '79.

If this is such a deal... why hasn't anyone one here bought it yet?

I'm seriously starting to question the integrity of this place. Is this an old boys' club? Sincerely asking...

Well I would like to thank Larry for posting it and spreading the word. Yes I am not sure it's the deal of the day. I was really going for FPOD. Fair price of the day. Obviously I am not expecting what I put into it. I can also accept the questions about why I'm selling. Just put it in one of the categories of ...lesson learned, Rookie mistake, Retro is a moron or ...it took me on the path to the scooter I really love. I buy into the latter reason. Either way, I try not to look back, I'm not going that way.

That's as good a reason as any. I have a Vespa 90 small frame I'm about to restore. I love this bike. There's just something about small frames that makes them really fun, both to ride and work on.

Retro, It's your scoot, do what you want. No explanations necessary.. You now have one that suits you better. That's fine. I think your price on the P is more than fair and if I had the dollars, I would pick it up myself. I would rather work on mechanical that paint and body work any day.

I can understand your point, but Retro has kind of endeared himself with the crowd on here . Not only because he asked a thousand questions, but the way he asked and the way he went about fixing the problems as they came up. Besides, he was funny as hell. Humor goes along way, especially when you can laugh about yourself and all the mistakes.

GL with a P200 engine and everything needs work. It's hard enough to find a GL on the east coast, but a GL200 is sort of my dream bike. I'm not sure what he was thinking with that fender.

This looks pretty solid. a little work and someone can have a (fairly) nice original rally for pretty cheap. probably need new seals and such, and the title sorted, but after a bit of work, a bit of polish, and some bureaucratic nonsense, having a running rally for less that 2k sounds pretty good.

Automatic? Are you referring to the "electronic" by mistake? Rally's are shifty's, not automatic. The electronic means it has an electronic ignition instead of points...

Saw this one on eBay. No stripes, but looks pretty decent. Still 2 days left, so no telling how much it may go for.

No. The ad shows transmission as automatic. I think adwood was taking the p.

Actually I really don't have the garage space.....that's why I sold my P200 recently. At the price he is asking though and the mileage it's right up my alley. Even if I don't keep it long term I know if I get it it'll be running again and at least in the hands of a vintage scooterist rather than some dreamers garage still rotting away.

I talked to the guy on the phone. He said he's had a lot of out of state interest but he want's it gone and doesn't want to deal with shipping or not in person buyers. Looks like I may luck out on this one and just have to bite the bullet and rent a garage. First world problems, I know.

Don't buy this. It's my friend Sam's bike....the frame is bent. The guy who is selling it on CL got it at an insurance auction...and all the good motor stuff is long gone before the insurance company sold it on. You're wasting your time here.

$600 150 Super project

Seattle Craigslist again - Came over from Italy like that, so it's probably well used. But it came thru Rob Hodge so it's probably mostly all there & little or no cancer even if bent up a bit. Doesn't run. Yet. So price might be negotiable.

Even though I have... well little mechanical skill, I gotta admit that's my ideal kinda deal. Cheap enough my wife wouldn't freak out at buying it, then spend a couple years poking away at it and learning a bunch.

I'd probably spend more money getting it to Vancouver/taxes/importing than the darn thing would cost

I suppose you could, but you could also have a runner for a couple hundred dollars & labor if you shop carefully & don't replace stuff you don't really need to & you're lucky. Or do a better job on the motor plus new tires likely & still have less than you paid for it added on. Tools do NOT count! I'd then ride it, wouldn't paint it for now. If ever...

As far as taxes, import fees etc, what if you bring it in as parts for now? If you did come down & get it, you could swing by my place for a couple hours and it would then qualify as 'parts' We could quickly pull the headset, fork, motor & seat, tank - now you have a frame and a couple boxes of parts. Be sure to bring a camera if this appeals to you.

If you're serious about the bike, ask Rob about it. Good luck!

Hear that sikkinixx? V oodoo just made you an offer you can't refuse. Now it's too good a deal to pass up.

Note I said he'll spend twice the cost fixing and tinkering with it. He won't spend it all at once, but he'll spend it.

We all know the drill. Getting the scoot running is just the beginning.

"Woo hoo it starts!"

... couple trips around the block later ...

"Hmmm, these brakes are a little sketchy. Tires are kinda worn too." cha-ching! $$

"Shocks seem kinda spongy... probably should get a new spring too.." cha-ching! cha-ching! $$

"Hey, how come the head light and tail light stopped working?" cha-ching! $$

"Oooo look at these pretty seats in the SIP catalog..." cha-CHING! $$$

"Hey, what's this puddle of gas?" ching! $

It won't be spent all at once, but over the course of two years, it'll be spent.

Note, however I said he'll love every minute of it.

That it's a great deal and you want a Rally and you don't REALLY want to thin the herd? Razz emoticon

again - Came over from Italy like that, so it's probably well used.

You'd then spend two times more fixing and tinkering with it. But you'd love every minute. Go for it!

Good luck!
Thanks for the offer! I let out an exasperated gasp for real-sies as I'd have to pass I have another few weeks of work left before the kids are out and my work is dried up until September. Dropping a G in Canada-bucks would have me sleeping on the couch all summer I think.

$350 in my Vespa fund, so we'll see how that grows in the next while and hopefully a similar situation comes along. Hell I don't even have a motorcycle license yet, I've only bombed around on 50cc'rs! Seattle seems like the place to look when it is time though, I poke around scoot.net/craigslist and there always seems to be something snazzy and MUCH cheaper than up here.

(on a related note, I'm taking the wife down to Seattle this weekend for a birthday baseball game, Go Ms!)
