Vintage vespa p200e - $800 (Chantilly ,va)

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/mcy/5039925862.html

some skinhead got hit and you can buy his bike. was running a search for an s150 for my girl (who suddenly wants a scooter after 3+ years of dating) and saw it. I've got two p's, no room, and am overseas. Someone pick this up, it'd make a solid cutdown and may have some kit work on it.
Don't buy this. It's my friend Sam's bike....the frame is bent. The guy who is selling it on CL got it at an insurance auction...and all the good motor stuff is long gone before the insurance company sold it on. You're wasting your time here.
Thanks for the tip. I forwarded it to my brother who passed on it. I secretly think he'll continue to try and convince me to loan him my my p200 so he can crash that too.

Better finding out this way than him driving 4 hours.

Not a deal of the day.. (they rarely are here) but I like this bike..

Dig this color and it looks good for it's age.. I wish the fender wasn't banged up (my top pet peeve is fender damage) but I still like the look of it. Fix the tweaked cowl trim, remove the sticker on the leg shield and the overall look would improve ten fold.

I actually like the banged up fender, it's what separates it from a trailer queen (and the bodge). It's the badge of a true rider, because we all bang up the fender (oops, gotta call it a mudguard here).

$1200 obo. Up for sale is my small frame racer. Originally a 1960's smallie. Currently set up with ss90 dummy tank, clubman bars, PK front fork with full hydraulic disk setup. SIP hugger front fender. Malossi RS24 shocks front and rear. 12v no battery conversion. Cafe racer seat modified to fit. Polini 133 with PM40 expansion chamber exhaust. Dellorto 25mm carb. Front legshild ready for radiator. I have another motor(was in this frame a couple of years ago) that was used in a race bike built around the Zirri MR2000 kit with both liquid cooled and air cooled heads. 2 expansion chambers for the Zirri, one for normal orientation, one for reverse. The cases have been welded in the past, and it will need a piston. Have radiator and water pump for the LC head. All of that for another $500.

Yes, deal.

Worst case scenario is motor has serious problems and you part it out and probably make a few bucks while squirreling away a few bits you want for yourself. If the motor turns over w/ compression & no odd sounds and it shifts OK when you roll the bike, it may only need the stator fixed & crankshaft cleaned up and you'd have a running Primavera to keep your V90 company and I know you'd love the 4 speed!

"Whats not included in the pictures is that I have the original mirror and some other parts."
Depending on what he means by this, could offer less if nobody else seems interested. His wife wants a clean driveway!!!

1957 Moto Rumi $4750
Not sure how great a deal it is, but this is pretty awesome. Amazing looking scooter.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/mcy/5047648727.html
Quote:
Yes, this is a Moto Rumi... here in the U.S. These were probably the fastest and most technically advanced scooter you could buy in the 1950's. Moto Rumi were really focused on racing, and they mainly sold their street motorcycles and scooters to get cash to funnel into their race team. The Formichino used the same motor that was in the motorcycles, but with a very advanced frame using the motor as a stressed member. They were very fast for their day - when they debuted in the early 50's, there was no Vespa or Lambretta that could come close in terms of performance. They were expensive back then, and mainly sold to enthusiasts. Not many survive. Your guess is as good as mine as to how many are in the U.S. Certainly it can't be more than a handful. I always thought they were cool, and when this one came up for sale I had to get it. I had plans to restore it, but you know the old story... I just have not had time to do much with it. Reality has set in, and now it is time to move it along to someone who does have the time to do this scoot justice. If you've ever wanted one, now's the time...

A little about the Rumi that I pulled from the internet:

Moto Rumi's Formichino scooter is perhaps the one motorscooter respected by motorcyclists -- probably because it can melt the paint off many 250cc motorcycles of the era with its amazing horizontal two-cylinder two-stroke 125cc engine.' -- Dregni & Dregni, Illustrated Motorscooter Buyer's Guide.

Previously producers of miniature submarines and torpedoes in WW2, the firm headed by Donnino Rumi switched to motorcycle manufacture at the war's end, introducing is first 'Turismo' model in 1950. This little gem was powered by what would become Rumi's trademark engine, a 125cc parallel-twin two-stroke, the cylinders of which were inclined horizontally. Built in numerous different stages of tune, this wonderfully versatile motor was used to power standard, sport and competizione models, as well as a range of advanced scooters. The latter's ultimate expression and a masterpiece of scooter design, the Formichino (Little Ant) arrived in 1954 and progressed via Normale and Lusso versions to the Sport and Bol d'Or racer. Its rivals might have been designed with cheapness and simplicity in mind but Donnino Rumi started from engineering first principles with the Formichino, using the engine as a stressed member of a chassis that was made up from aluminium castings bolted together. Introduced in 1957, the Sport version featured linered aluminium-alloy cylinders and produced 9bhp, which was good enough for a top speed of around 70mph. Twin carburettors and chromium-plated cylinders were available as options. Sadly, despite its technical innovation and engineering prowess, Moto Rumi had gone by 1962.

ever heard of the term "irony"?

if you had, you'd understand my sad realization that it was wasted on you, newb.

Newb... Now that's actually the part that's ironic - he has been on here 5 years longer than you. Doesn't post every 17.5 seconds so his post count is lower - but the newb title would more accurately be thrown your way than his, based on time.

I recall your early posts when you joined and were desperately trying to find a bike- now your out talking shit to anyone you can. Guess I missed something.

Yup wasn't discussing the "joke" it was very obvious as the ad was claiming it was a Vespa. Just funny to see an absolute true newbie to these bikes go from begging for help to being and ass whenever possible.

Post counts... yup, doc pretty much hit the nail square on the head there, and judging by Jess' response to the post in question, his assertion would seem to hold water.

I really felt like my response appropriately matched the tone of a guy who was sticking his nose in just long enough to miss the point whilst attempting to take the piss where none was deserving taken.

While on the subject of tone, I can't say i'm really a fan of yours. Let me assure you, I've never begged anyone for anything in my life. Since you seem intent on putting me on blast, I think I can do a better job:

HEY EVERYONE I'VE ONLY BEEN RIDING VINTAGE FOR 3 YEARS

And when I showed up looking for a bike I took some shit from some of the saltier bastards on the site, and somehow managed not to cry about it.

Since then, between my lack of a cage, 20 mile freeway commute rain or shine, and my willingness to fix my own shit, the more hardcore members of the local scene have afforded me a modicum of respect and manage not to consider me a noob, but then i guess I shouldn't be dragging what transpires in the real world into an internet discussion. It seems ridiculous that any of this even needs saying, but it's like, jesus christ are you serious?

In summation... If you don't like my posts, don't fucking read them. As for everyone else, my karma would seem to indicate an overall approval of my demeanor. Having said that, I bid you good day sir.

Now maybe we can get back to discussing deals on scooters, ironic or otherwise. Jesus.

TV 175 parts bike in SF

Saw this ad today. Don't really know much about lambrettas, but this looks like a lot of parts for $350. Nice to see someone not asking for complete original pricing on a parts scoot too.
