That's not original leggy trim but looks quality, perhaps dealer installed Italian option they offered at the time? Seat looks new, stored indoors.

This popped up on CL yesterday. Of course I went to look at it. The guy is cleaning his fathers storage shed and needs it gone. He did some research for price but has no idea the size of the project. Its pretty rough and has been painted. It needs a complete engine rebuild. New crank, piston, cylinder and clutch. The front fender is in rough shape but rust appears to be minimal.. I didn't get the motor number but the frame number is hard to read. It has a plate but it just has the serial number no model letters. That number comes up as a 1970 Sprint. The plate is to clean and looks like it was added after the rattle can paint job. The guy has no clue as to what he has. I would buy it but I have a Sprint Veloce that needs my attention as well as a few modern scoots so I have no room to let it sit unless I put it in my bedroom. I hope someone that will get it on the road gets it.

It's not a P but seems to be a legit running and riding VBB and not an Allstate for $900. Maybe a project for some but a rider/make go faster for others.

Anyone hear from the Twin Cities '82 P200? Tried contacting and seem to be getting no where? Seller won't provide any info or realistic contact info. Perhaps they are on a fishing expedition? ( Land of 10,000 lakes)

I'm back in the Twin Cities in August for the Land of 10 K Scoots rally. And told the seller they could hold the bike or I'd pay to have it delivered to our house in near by Egan - Seller concerned that Paypal is a scam? I said I'd even cover the Paypal charges? No response at all?

Suggestions?

Just let it brew. It's Craigslist. They might not be checking the progress of the ad often.

The ad says it was their father's, so who know what attachment they have towards the thing. Or, they could be fishing to see how much they can get offers for... or they could have already sold it and are not checking the email address, or maybe they changed their mind about selling it and are going to keep it themselves?

Or it could be a scam. Who knows. Easy come, easy go on Craigslist.

Agree, but too bad there's no phone number. Sometimes it's the persistent guy that get the prize, especially if seller isn't on the ball.

Thanks All - I totally agree. It could be any thing. One thing for certain, its Craigslist. One day I promise, I am going to stop buying vintage scoots and get a modern reliable bike that shifts automatically.

Seller of the '82 called me up today. Really delightful person. Good story of the P. It was a replacement for an aging 65 Vespa - model not remembered. Scoot was taken annually for years from Twin Cities to the family vacation spot on the west coast. I think it did that trip for more than 10 years. That is like 40,000 miles. That is so pure.

Guess I am definitely attending the Twin Cities Rally. Road Trip!

Hey Lango - I'm glad you got to talk with the owner. Which scooter was taken to the West Coast, the 82 P or the 65 Vespa? So what's the skinny on the 82 P? Restored or museum piece?

Re: 82 P200 History

The seller's father took the P200 back and forth to California. When the family was in the Twin Cities area, they traveled on larger bikes and the P was just not practical to use on the highway traffic in Minnesota. Recently their daughter was going to begin using the P 200 and she opted again for a larger bike. So they have decided to make more room and sell it off. I drive several times a year there and I can totally understand not wanting to compete with Minnesota traffic on a Vespa.

I'll post images and any history some time next month. They seller is really delightful and was just very cautious, which I can appreciate. He is also going to try to find history of the bike - hopefully old photos of its original owner. I am registered to attend the Minneapolis Rally in August 9-12 then I hope to get to the Grand Junction 2018 Beat the Heat High Desert Scooter Rally, August 17 -19.

I've been scootless for a while so I'm going to try to take a look at this one. Thanks for posting this.

Chicago and East Grand Rapids, MI are relatively close to one another. Seems logical to be posted in two adjacent markets.

Most scammers want to get the maximum response from potential buyers. Logically, I would think a scammer would post pics of a complete, running scooter as opposed to a pile of parts that would turn off many.

But who the hell knows. It's a goofy world these days.

Good luck on this one! I contacted the guy about two weeks ago. Took forever to get him on the phone after days of trying. Returning texts took him forever. He's selling it for his brother and it's stored at his parents' house. He sent me some close-ups - lots of issues. No keys, no title, couldn't get him to send me pics of the areas I needed to look at. Hesitant to send a pic of the VIN number, and when he did it was unreadable. He could have just texted it to me but never did. Blah, blah, blah.

18 x 2 = 36. Just sayin.

That pink one has been for sale on and off since last riding season. I always wondered if it was legit or bodgey. The color is a turn off for me.

If it was half of what he's asking, it would be a solid DOD, but the price isn't unreasonable considering he had the motor tuned. Now he claims " Plus, this little thing can do 60MPG (Although I don't suggest doing that)." so MPH because nobody gets 60 MPG all kitted up. But the patina lovers will be interested, this thing really is quite stunning!
