Ugh...I just got back last Saturday from a 3200 mile road trip of buying two different KTM 990 Adventure dirtbikes. I'm west of PDX, and I hotshotted 1000 miles to Vegas with no sleep to pick up the first bike. I left home at 10:30 am Thursday, arrived in Vegas Friday at 4:30am, took a 2 hour nap in the open bed of my truck right in front of the seller's house, woke up at 6:30am, bought the bike, left Vegas at 7:50am with bike, continued to drive another 570 miles to Silver City New Mexico. Arrived in NM at 6PM Friday evening and bought the second bike. Almost passed out from the intense pain in my foot while loading up the second bike (I crushed my foot 3 months ago, and I'm still on crutches). Started driving again at 7pm towards Alpine California. Finally stopped at 10:30pm Friday night to sleep on top of a concrete picnic table at a rest area. 2 hours of sleep in 36 hours of driving kinda kicked my butt. Woke up at 4:30am Saturday morning and arrived in Alpine California about noon Saturday. I dropped off my dirtbike's suspension at a shop, then pointed the truck North to home. I stopped again Saturday night about 11pm at rest area in Lakehead, CA. Woke up at about 5am and stopped in southern Oregon to pick up my sister at about noon on Sunday. She drove the truck the rest of the 5 hours back home. Arrived at home at 6pm Sunday. Two of my friends came over and unloaded the bikes for me at 7pm. Went to bed at about midnight, then automatically woke up at 6am the next morning.

I'm done buying scooters/bikes for a bit. My funds are depleted, and my butt is sore from driving for so many hours. My foot now hurts like a son of a gun even more than it did before I left for the trip.

I did bring a mini freezer with me on the trip, so I was swapping out ice packs on my foot every hour while driving. That was the absolute only saving grace for me.

My sister took a quick pic while I was sleeping. I was pretty darn comfortable (and tired) so it took me about 1 minute before I was out. A half cup of a medium sized coffee and one energy drink kept me powered the whole trip!
you're a maniac!

know that you're always welcome to crash my party if you're within striking distance. the land bats may try and jump on you while sleeping though! the tea is always stocked and I'll make grilled cheese or omelets depending on arrival and departure times.

nice to see that you got the hard cast off, hope the PT and rehabbing on your foots is going well.

We all have our own special forms of crazy around here. I don't really do the road trips to buy scooters thing (except when I do, I guess), but if you wanna talk about what I'll do once they're in my workshop...

Parts are getting hard to find for these. $500 not a bad deal. 5 years ago, I got a complete, running bike for $400 but got tired of hunting for parts.

sometimes it's: whoa this a deal a whole and sometimes it's whoa, this is worth it for the parts alone! a hydro fork & headset, throw in a motor with go fast bits, add in a seat and a tank setup? if it's tagged up and titled? even better!
Yes, you could steal all the get fast stuff, rebuild it stock and move it even. Hell Greasy you could stuff a 2 port motor and a p2 drum fork in there with your parts stash.

kajiit has thought about this... there is P2 16mm forks in stock as well as P headsets... and I have a stock top end kicking around here somewhere...

all kidding aside, if this was local, I'd scoop it and ride it for a season and then probably do that in the winter. I don't know if I'd go full tilt on the fork, but skimming the zoom zoom parts for stock would probably be my jam.

if it was close I'd roll dice on it as a flip and knock stock stuff back on. I'd maybe make a few hundo and come out with some bits.

I'm trying to adios metal over here, amigo. and lemme tell ya, the combo plate is FULL right meow. need to lighten up that load and focus on my own projects!

My thoughts exactly on the 2T and 4T part

We have a saying in finnish that "raudassa ei ole raha hukassa" which loosely translates into "money invested in iron is not money wasted"

Never found a picture of a Bajaj 4T engine. Possibly it's the same as LML's

https://www.ebay.com/itm/393818073253

Just vaguely same shape as the original 2T motors, but that's about it.

Good luck on ever finding spare parts for the Baja Jay 4T engine nowadays. They were a fairly popular scooter up here in the PacNW back in the early 2000's though. With a POC (Pride Of Cleveland) slip on muffler installed, it made the little 4T Chetak and the "Cylon"-esque Legend sound like an uncorked XR650R. I'd be hesitant to spend over $500 on the 4T version just because of the lack of spares.

Hamara Bajaj baby!!!

i am genuinely tempted by that Blue Stella with the go fast bits. Its a few hours from me. TBH I'd want to strip it down for all the good goodies, as I have no interest in keeping a Stella in my collection... could be swapped and rebuilt as stock, but the effort and cost for me the aquire the stock parts and do the rebuild is probably not worth it. So, I think its a pass, but fun to think about for sure.

I have too many Vespas already (internal dialog....'is there such a things too many?... No, No there is not')

If that Stella had a stock 200, then I would probably go after it, but I'm not a fan of buying highly tuned scooters that have a thick layer of dust on them.

John you're terrible. if I had the time, and the dough and the space and got the okay from the war department... you know id be just silly enough to go and do that.

but alas, I'm looking to move metal and acquire a white whale.

anyway, lots of moving pieces but I'll 100% give you a ring tomorrow about kajiit modern deal of the day! options abound!

GL & whodats over here reading my mind. if it was so Johnny kick ass why's it sitting.

I mean, I know life happens and shit. I just picked up that Stella with a 200 and zoom zoom parts that was sitting because dude was focusing on his relationship, career, having a kid.

but usually zipped up stuff gets sold off or borked and then it goes to "I'll get to that" status.

I'd still go 5 on it. the parts are worth that.

My gut is that it's some sort of Frankenmotor. Bored out Stella cases to take a 200 cylinder with a long stroke. While I could have all sorts of fun with a natively reeded 200, that's not the route I would choose to get there.

Even so, I'd probably jump on it if it was close to me, either to part out or swap in a stock motor and flip.

A 62mm stroke with a 63mm bore would be a 193cc, so that not it.

Boring case out to fit a P200 cylinder, could be interesting, LML cases have a huge inlet for reeds. You'd have to rotate cylinder studs, a machine shop if given a P200 cylinder of choice should be able to handle that. You could add metal where needed with welding. HMMM 228 LML motor?

Maybe the cylinder is bored out to 67mm, if that's even possible.

But, yeah, whatever's going on there is definitely strange. Maybe it's a failed experiment and that's why the seller is trying to offload it.

But, yeah, as much as people dog on them, I love my hopped up Stella/LML motors. They scream.

Although not NSM, PLEASE talk me out of it. I always loved it since it came out and rode one around 1999. It's definitely a bargain at 350€ (not firm) but the lack of spare parts holds me back a lot. It's also a 5 hour round trip to go and get it, although it doesn't matter that much (I could go on Saturday). Two friends and also my parts supplier said to forget it… Crying or Very sad emoticon Crying or Very sad emoticon Crying or Very sad emoticon

If you can't get parts, then it's going to be a 350€ yard decoration sooner than later, and you know it.

You just need to decide if it'll be 350€ worth of fun while it lasts.

Pros:
Looks
Large wheels

Cons:
Parts hard to find
Parts hard to find ( gotta count that at least twice)
I told you so from fiends when it breaks. (fiends not misspelled)
I told you so from parts supplier, when you can't find a part.
Hiding it when it doesn't run and you need parts.

Cheers Gents!! Logic started to prevail again. I mean, even if the speedo shows real Kms, something's going to break at some point (it already has a non working kickstart). Problem is the mirrored engine which means unique parts. If it was at the left like every other Piaggio scooter, parts are easily found or retrofitted. Cosmetically looks OKish, I already found a speedo lens and a rear mudguard if I was going to get it…

I'm 1000% confident that the cases are true 200cc. In the description it says that the engine was assembled by P Town Scooters, and Patrick wouldn't ever put his name on any sort of bastardized junk.

I wonder if it's a scam, sent the guy a question and asked for pictures, his reply was yes it's still available.
I guessing it's legit. It could be that the guy is super busy and doesn't want to deal with anyone who isn't going to be legitimately buying it? I'm only guessing that because of what's in the background of the picture. It looks like the guy is a full on stone setting mason. This is probably the most busy time of year for him. That being said, it looks like the ad is 16 weeks old, so maybe he isn't too motivated? If i wasn't on crutches, i'd be tempted to scoot out there to check it out.

Argh. I want it. And it's close.

That's a great price for a shop. It's really straight and original, too.
