Ok, as someone who has a 90 year old house and an air compressor I can tell you you really don't need a heavy duty one....a pancake one will work great. Snap-ons are great....try a pawn shop, good deals on them there.

I completely agree with Nigel, I have a big old house in SJ, CA and sold off my larger compressor and just have a pancake one. Much better and useful

I concur. When I see statements like "Matching Number's Concours Restoration" with a price below market it pegs the needle on my BS detector. If it's so perfect then why so cheap? Even if the seller needs to sell it quick, he doesn't need to give it away...just price it low enough to attract more buyers.

Strange remark about it being "museum ready"...guess it's not road worthy??? Can't figure this out as the price is too low for how good it looks. Some sort of scam? Pix are of another bike? Or does the seller even have an actual bike for sale?

Yeah, I am skeptical myself, but threw it out there in case it's real. I figured the cognoscenti on this board would pick it apart if it's fake!

Do numbers even match on old Vespas? They don't on later ones.

Newsflash: As if we didn't see this one coming. Below is the reply to my simple inquiry

===============================================

It's still for sale but before i start answering your questions, i`ll have to let you know that i left town a few days ago because i have to help my daughter organize her wedding, and i may stay here a while, but this is no problem because i`ll sell it through Co-Op services. I guess you used Co-Op before, if you didn`t let me know because i met people that never used it and i will explain how it works in detail. Also let me know if you have other questions. Thank you

Michele

===============================================

Let me dissect the bullshit and break it down:

She won't answer my questions because, um, she's out of town?

Somehow her daughter's wedding slipped her mind before she posted the bike for sale

Mention of a 3rd party to handle the transaction that I "should've" heard of

Pardon you, but I only look stupid. Now I have a new best friend to play with and will follow up with whatever happens.

Below is the ad. Am posting it as it'll be removed soon.

Hoo boy, this is just as I thought. Straight up scam:

===========================================

I'm glad you are still interested. No problem, i'll explain the Co-Op concept, their website is (www.redacted-consignment.com). They are a chain of ebay drop off stores and they offer their services for craigslist users too. I left the item in their possession when i left and intended to sell it when i got back but the wedding costs too much and i need to sell it now to help my daughter get married. They will handle the shipping and the payment. If you want to purchase this, you must register on their website, they send you an invoice with the transaction details and payment instructions and you send the payment to one of their agents. They receive the payment and start the shipping process. You receive the item and you have 10 days to inspect it and see if it's exactly as described. If you decide to keep it, you let them know and they will transfer the payment to me, if you decide to return it, they will give you a full refund back and return the item on my cost. So you can be sure the item is exactly as described because i wouldn't sell something that i know it will be returned and loose extra money. The shipping cost is already included in the price listed on craigslist so you don't have to worry about that. The process is very simple, it probably looks a little complicated from what i explained but it's not and for a better understanding of how their service works you can check out their "Selling on eBay and Craigslist" page. I would advise you to read the Selling on eBay and Craigslist page before you register so you can be sure you understand how the process works. Let me know if you are still interested and if you have questions please ask, no problem. Also, if you don't want to register on their website for any reason, you can send me your full name and shipping address and i will forward it to them, but it's better if you register yourself.

Thank you

Michele

PS: I am sorry for the long email but i couldn't explain the process in less words.

It is an obvious scam. What else is there to know?

There have been a lot of scam Vespa ads posted in Fort Worth. There was a GTS last week for $2000. I didn't even have to ask about that one to know that it was fishy.

Pile o' parts

Vintage Vespa - $300 (Enumclaw/Auburn)
Date: 2010-10-01, 6:51PM PDT
Reply to: sale-2eyza-1984418736@craigslist.org

Late 50's or early 60's Vespa scooter parts.The rusty looking frame/body is actually very solid with just a couple spots of rust through.The red frame has an Allstate tag on it.It is junk but has a few salvageable parts.I think there may be enough peices to assemble one bike.3 gas tanks,2 front forks and fenders,3 or 4 seats ,one license plate holder,one complete engine[stuck],probably enough parts for at least one more complete engine and two large boxes of miscellaneous who know's what parts.Obviously these don't run but a great opportunity for some one restoring one .No paperwork,the price is firm.Please respond with a contact phone number and only if you are serious.
Thanks

Scammers generally think they're smarter than their mark, and ironically that's the trap they fall into...when they ignorantly venture into a realm of an obscure item that they attempt to "sell". Those with particular arcane knowledge will be able to punch a hole through the BS large enough to drive a semi-truck through...sideways...with their eyes closed...while tossing empty beer cans out the window.

The non-link version
PX150 LIMITED EDITION (179 OF 500) SEAFOAM GREEN
$1650

This is a beautiful bike and an amazing deal...
ONLY 159 MILES... BARELY USED! HAVE ALL PAPERWORK AND LAST INSPECTION.

Reason for great deal is that though it is barely used and in great condition it simply hasn't been driven. There may be some start up maintenance on your side.

Call Kristin if interested at 646-263-8595.

I wonder what happend to the directionals and how it effects the rest of the system. This being a balanced 6v system. I have a USA rally 200 like this one same color. If the elec. Is ok I would say go for it. Hopefully it's not a big fix. The price is right for a working Rally.

The bike is in absolutely great shape. I am having trouble getting it started. The bike actually was tuned up in November of 09 which is the good news. At least it hasn't been sitting for 5 years.

First of all, my skills mechanically are below average, but I have narrowed the problem down to the fact that gas isn't getting to the engine. If I put a capful of gas in the Carb, the bike will run, but the gas is not getting there on it's own. I am embarrassed to say that I don't know how to clean the carb, or exactly what part needs cleaning. If someone could point me in the right direction on how to tackle this on my own, that would be great. Otherwise, I will seek a professional and pay the price. I am pretty close, and have made some progress.

Cleaning the carb can be as simple as removing the right cowl and airbox cover, taking the air filter off and removing the jets. Once the jets are out spray carb cleaner in all the holes and let it soak good. Then kick the hell out of it. Repeat. Repeat again. You may need to take the plug out so you're not flooding the chamber. Spray out the jets and reinstall them and the plug. Then try kicking the hell out of it again. It might start. If it was running that recently it sounds like to me it is just gummed up. Definitely something you can do without having to take it in. Good luck!
