If it was possible to install a 2T engine in it - maybe. But I don't think it's doable.

yeah that headset and motor, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that they are both locked up tighter than a bulls ass at fly time.

I think it's a 4T, it's got the louvers in the engine cowl, the exhaust doesn't look standard Stella 2T, and it's got the PX star hub and I think the 2T's came with the P looking style hub (at least the one I have here).

totally different under the hood. it's closer to getting an auto engine in there than a 2T motor, but it IS set up in such a way that makes for fabricating brackets/mounts much easier...

you can see I'm getting closer, at least I'm trying to run the PX now, I gotta sort it to sell it! I'm holding off until the new year, but the ninja or the PX will go to allow the bikes to start flowing again from Chez Greasy to these parts...

yeah I'm fairly certain it is they just updated to the star style hub.

at 500 that's not an awful buy. the cowls are the lever type but you've got the whole handlebars, fork and disc set up and some rims. I'm sure you could flip the motor for a few bucks and come out even stevens.

No wonder why the seller can't find the title. That's a Copart auction sticker that's still on that Stella's windscreen. That means that the scooter has a salvage title, but the seller doesn't want to admit to it.

Yeah, I realized when I went back and looked that it doesn't have a sight glass, so definitely a four stroke.

Not mine... This familiar listing is back after a 1-2 year hiatus.

Did anyone get the lowdown on this? I haven't seen in person as it's 2 hrs from me, and I happen to already have a GL project in storage, if this IS a legit GL that is..

The ad has been up 30 days at this point.

That looks like there's an actual GL hiding under there, but it's an import from somewhere, I'm guessing, since it has that mounting bar for a front license plate on the legshield. Also, somebody gave it a terrible respray at some point in its life.

No obvious legshield rot, which is good, but something might be bent in the front end. Maybe just the fork, but it's hard to tell from looking at that picture of the legshield. Maybe from whatever they hit that bent up the mudguard and right side of the legshield.

If you wanted a bare metal teardown project and (I'm guessing) don't mind getting a title for it, it'd be a deal at $800.

The front plate holder is from the East Coast. At some point in time, one of the States, if not several, had a rule to run both a rear and front. The accessory is the result of this rule. USA specific. I have collected many of these accessories over the years. Indonesia requires a front plate, but their bracket is different.

Thanks for the info

I live in Tennessee, which doesn't believe in front plates at all and barely believes in rear plates. My daughter texted me this week that she was behind a car whose plates expired in 2017.

Just from the pics, the GL is a bit bashed up, is missing the L side cowl and most trim pieces, and then who the heck knows what's lurking under engine cowl and the odd re-paint job.

Maybe for someone who doesn't already have too many projects -- and who knows that it costs at least $1k to rebuild a bike with only the basics these days. Feels like parts costs have almost doubled in the last 5 years.

I offered her $200 six months ago when it was listed for $1800 but only if it had a title, $100 without. She told me it was rare and was worth at least $2000. Dreamer What The? emoticon

The GL's got plenty of dings, for sure, but I don't see anything major that can't be hammered out or replaced. Trim and badge are missing but looks like the horn, headlight, tail light, switch, hubs are original, grips too. Can't really see the paint through the layers of dust. Maybe I'm biased. Mine wasn't exactly a beauty when I found it.

SoCal, yours had a glorious rebirth. Some nice upgrades too. I enjoyed following the detail of the build thread.

My GL project awaits. The PO painted her dark blue with a rattle can, and it formerly was painted red. It's got some floor bottom rust, so I'll likely have it stripped to bare metal to see what we're dealing with. It also was missing its motor but I found another GL one in NYC.

I think the GL was probably the best looker of them all. And SoCal - yours turned out fantastic. Nice when all the hard work comes together.

Not a bad deal. A tremendous amount of time and $$$. Not for the faint at heart (that is why the seller is ditching it). The Allstate badge alone os fetching $150+ in some circles.

I was hoping you would reply Mr. Gick. This is definitely at the deep end for a fool like me, but I know from other projects that if all the parts are not there, it becomes a long term parts search. Indeed, not for faint of heart.

sure. the opinion is USA based. USA is the goldmine of low mileage scooters, projects, and barn finds. best place to live in the world if you are into that sort of thing.
