Beg to differ.

ONLY original smallie 50cc motors, completely stock will be considered! Must be done so can be original pedals can be restored, chassis must NOT be cut and welded(looking at you WDC!), a few bolt holes are allowed. SEVEN of them should be plenty!

Maybe i could store it at your house until mid-july...then peddle the 206 mile Seattle To Portland bicycle ride to get it back home. Do you feel up to a long bicycle ride with me Terry?

Hmmm... How about this? I DO have a spare old 50cc smallie motor, AND I'd love a summer ride down to Oregon, PLUS we could do the initial conversion at my place...

...so, just find five more ppl like me ?

Motom engines bolt onto the bottom bracket, so you could keep the peddles and return it to stock later.

Though it looks like it weighs more than 7 Motoms, so if there is any hill you will still max out at ~17mph.

Rally 180 at $5k. Rallys seem to be coming out of the woodwork down here lately.

Well let's talk about that - what is a Rally 180 worth? So few come up for sale. It's a decent looking bike but non-original color. No idea if it's sporting the original engine. No P lump though based on the kicker.

And not re-registered for about 2 years by the looks of the sticker, so probably has some back fees.

With a questionable respray and missing trim? Not $5,500 by any stretch of the imagination. That one a week or so ago as the same price for OG paint, wasn't it?

I almost bought an Orange Rally 200, respray, professional job, blah, blah - $5,500. I decided not to, and in my head I would've paid $3,500 for it, but didn't even throw him the low ball offer.

Now if it was original paint? Hmmmm...

the respray and wrong tail light are definitely in the "minus" to a purist, but it's still a clean looking bike.

on hard numbers alone, it's rare. quite rare. but in my mind only a points resto would bare out the big kinda dough-- like GS/SS money.

I think an apt comparison is kind of like an ET3, in that they so infrequently come up for offer it's hard to really put gauge on the market.

that being said, the 200 from previous was a deal due to the fact that it was OG paint and a 210 cylinder was a cherry on top.

this is a solid price, but not a smoking deal.

For Sure... people forget that the Rally 180 is a very low production bike. For sure the smallest run of any modern large frame. If it has the ulmu, OG engine, and a straight (nonbondo'd, non-rusted body) I'd say its not far off the mark.

Ffff those whitewhalls are terrible though. Gah.

And signature script, and the US models also had oil injection, so that's cool.

I would almost trade my Rally 200 for a 180 of equal condition.

This says it's a GL with a P200 motor. The prior link wasn't working, but I have to wonder...wasn't that one in Nashville, but this one is in Cleveland? Or was that just the last listing location I looked at?

Maybe a fraudulent listing?

If it's legit, it's not a full-on DOTD, but a respectable looking bike that could be put back to a respectable patina.

For reference...

Not sure if posting the link correctly...sorry? It is in Placerville California (Hangtown) on facebook. If I had the room and spending money I would get there as soon as I could. The roads are closed as of this posting but you might be able to get there from the Cali side?

The person listing is asking $2,450 for a 1962 vespa which looks to me like a first year GL ? Correct me if I am wrong on model please.

That's not a GL. Looks like an Allstate or vnb/vbb.

Early one. It's got a round tail and split headset. Also a front damper, that allstates didn't have.

In that condition, it's priced very high.

In the blown up picture it looks like the pedal is bent on the honda? He said in the listing he was negotiable or words to that effect. Just listed two days ago but no deal of the day I guess.

Tail light is same as a 1962 GS. Could it be a GS?

It looks like it could be a good bike. It's all there, even the speedo and taillight lens. That's a good sign.

The tires are new-ish.

It might be missing the cowl and flywheel.

If it has no major rust, it's something you could easy get running.

I don't know about the price. Not running, maybe $1000 tops? High probability it has title/registration issues. Less in that case.

It's not a GS. It's a Vespa 125 (VNA-VNB) or Vespa 150 (VBA-VBB).

Those are the same bike, except for the engine.

Could also be an Allstate Cruisare, which was the Sears version of those, but they had a different taillight and didn't have a dampened fork. But parts get swapped.

It's somewhere in the early range – 1957-1961, most likely. After that, the bike was the same but had a square tail, and a single piece headset.

This is a good overview (with 1990s prices)

split headset and two runners in the center instead of a floor mat would suggest VNA.

engine is not VNA (not piston port), so VNB or VBB

Frame is round tail so '62 or earlier.

My 62 Allstate has split rails, clam shell headset - VNB2 engine. Three speed, 125...

The one for sale - no lock on the glove box, and no fender trim. The entire front end has been sprayed, swingarm cover and all - not a good sign. But it does have a Vespa nametag on the legshield. Hmmmm....

The early Allstate VNA's had the smaller rectangular taillight and no seam in the mudguard. The later ones came with the acorn version and a seam in the mudguard. I actually trace my blue Allstate (VNA) as a 1958, but it's titled as a 61.

Has to be an early ('61?) Cushman Vespa.
Only way to make sense of that spit headset there.

an important clue would be the plate. black plates were issued 63~69

my guess is that this is a 62 production and 63 sale, which would track with the headset being produced through 62.

but if it's a cushman, all bets are off. it seems they kinda took an AMC approach and just used whatever was in the bins at time of assembly.

all that aside, it's hard to make the case for anything more that 1K on that. it's got a motor, but it's missing stuff, but it's not piston port so it's easy to source at least, but it's all open so it may be all locked up or junked out. it's missing the cowl, which is a bummer. who knows what's cracking with the paperwork.

Is it really a two stroke? I don't see a sight glass, but I'm looking on my phone.
