i own both a vespa and a lambretta by the way. 'classic' vespas are still produced by vespa (px - hence the quotes) and if lambretta didnt die in the 70's, i have a feeling they'd be making plastic four stroke equivalents today, but itd probably be the Ln model by now or something.

classic bikes are classic bikes. some are more collectible than others because they made x amount less than their competitors. i like my vespa, i like my lambretta. i have no intention of selling either, but if i def had to had to, id sell my '80 vespa because i can buy another one probably just as easily as i picked mine up.

I'd rather ride a Lambretta LN over a Modern Vespa.

Maybe, or he pulled the ad because it sold.

Was asking $1100, but it has not been on the street in years, instead it was being used as furniture, and previously been painted with blue house paint.

Here is a great deal, totally undervalued. If I were still in NYC I would be driving to pick this up today...
http://scoot.net/classifieds/forsale.html?id=29730

Imola 185 cylinder, GP crank upgrade, electronic ignition, mikuni TM28 carb, JL3 expansion chamber exhaust. It also has fork dampers. About 10K total miles but less than 2K on a total rebuild. $1,300. It's not a museum piece but it's a great scooter. The appearance is functional and it is painted with white lacquer but the frame retains the original green that it came with from the factory. (It's Italian and never been to Asia.) The side panels are remade but I have the originals. The scooter starts easily. It does not have a choke kit so you must remove the side panel to start it up. It is, of course, a two stroke. Everything works but the tail light is always on when it's running. The scooter has two seats as is original. However, with the current engine set-up, it is not really for two up riding as the power is mostly at the top end. It goes, it easily keeps up with traffic and tracks nice and straight. It makes lots of noise and it's fun. It is located in Piermont, New York. It has paper work. No title, but I can give you what you need to register it as it is on the road as you can see from the tags in the pics. Prefer local sale.

(to tbone)Its a stupid move on anyones part, in such a "small circle", to pull a deal out from someones feet with a larger offer. I think at that point you know your treading into a dark move.

Tbone, I sent you a pm.

In over 25 years in this scene I've never seen quite this kind of dick move. Dominic, I thought you were done with scooters. You should have stayed with vespa. Of course the seller is to blame for welching out of a deal but as he told me you knew that the bike had sold to another buyer and proceeded to offer double the asking price to get the bike anyway. This is a very small scene, the Lambretta scene is even smaller. You have made the scene even smaller for yourself. Enjoy your tainted trophy. We know exactly what kind of person you are. Stupid.

These are the facts. Tbone is no the buyer. He knows the buyer, period.

I feel it is important to clear this up.

Sorry dominic, maybe it was the emotican of the razz that got me.

@38, sending you a pm. The buyer has known the seller for about 20 years.

He paypaled the seller from out of town and would like to talk to you.

Wow... Let me lay it out for you... I saw the deal and thought this would be a good way to get back to hanging out with some guys I used to... At no one point in time did I say I was the buyer... I saw the add and got excited the seller said That it was still for sale... I posted my comment and later on got the email that he has another potation buyer who I know... But at that time I already told him about it and was no longer Interested because he said it was a starting bid of 800 I didt really feel like dishing that out for a project scoot it was either the asking price or nothing... So I let my good friend know about it... I didn't shaft any of you or do anything wrong to any of you guys... Just wanted to clarify shit il be done with "scooters" now??

To me, a deal is a deal. The seller had a deal with me, there was no question about that. Afterwards the seller negotiated another deal with a different buyer. The new buyer and I do not know each other but I've heard of him. The seller is shady to be sure. Thankfully he is no longer in the scene. Still, I needed a beater bike. The thing that got me upset with the buyer was the seller's statement to me that he told the buyer that the bike was sold but that the buyer then countered with a higher offer, queering the deal.
I just got of the phone with the buyer (small world this scene) and he told me that at no time did the seller tell him the bike was already sold or that a deal had been struck, had he known that then that would have been the end of it. So, that's good to know. I guess that the positives in this have been making contact with 2 new scooterists that prior to this I had no contact with and both seem to be nice guys. Hopefully any of you MV folk that are newer in the scene will have this example to see how things can get blown up, how small the scene is and how important it is to deal a straightforward manner. Keep your scooter Karma clean. I'm out.

Patrick,
No one has actually seen the bike since he put it in a shed in 97'. The dude is as slippery as an eel. I just talked to him again and now his story has changed yet again. Nothing changes the fact that the bike was sold to me and then sold to someone else who had no idea that a deal had already been struck. Maybe there was a good reason this guy dropped out the first time. I know his name and the crew he rode with but I won't disclose it here. I don't believe there was a disc. Maybe you are thinking of the WCLW race bike that lurks hidden. Yes?
