My DOTD for a $600 P200 turned out to be just meh. Drove 3 hours and got there and somehow the bike magically morphed into a P125X. Still, I was there and wanted a P so I picked it up. Figure $200 into the motor and I'll have a running P series for under $800. I can live with that.

Sounds like a good price! The lower gearing will be fun if you kit it.

Laughing emoticon yea...not trying to have the karma that guy has. Either way, he was an idiot. Obviously was just riding scoots cause he had issues with the law. Just pulled the motor and cylinder head this Am and the piston looks great. Gonna do some mild port and polish and a simple rebuild. Otherwise the bike looks pretty clean.

Trust me, you don't need it. I get caught up in flurries of "gotta have em allllll" but the truth is the more vintage scoots you have the fewer running scoots you'll have and the less time you'll enjoy riding a given machine. I think 2 is a reasonable number for one chap, although I WILL buy an ET3 when I get the chance.

Thanks man! 8) Gonna rebuild it stock for now with a bit sportier pipe. I'll be using this one as a daily commuter when I sell my TAG scoot. After pulling this cylinder head and seeing how that only took and hour or two to do, I figure I can always kit it down the road with ease.
Gonna post a new thread on port and polish now....everyone feel free to chime in....Opinions appreciated.

I now have ( dare I say it ) too many scooters.
I often wish I had just 2.

I know I know... I just have this malfunction that makes me tend to indulge in good deals on things I love... Went through that w/ classic car land-yachts a couple years back and ended up with three of the damned things. My apartment manager HATED me. Passing on deals makes me a little twitchy myself...

dcunited4life, is that the P from Smithfield? Although often spoken of unfavorably, a DR 180 kit will make a very noticeable difference in performance, especially uphill and against a headwind. It will rattle more, and have a little more exhaust noise.

First, yes it is the P that was for sale in Smithfield. Guy said he was from NY and had moved to NC awhile back. His brother had the bike and he paid $300 to have it shipped to him 5 or so years ago. He ran it for awhile and was enjoying it but then it stopped running right/wouldn't run without the choke on so i am figuring the seals are bad (it's a 79' so I could see some bad seals being an issue on a 33 year old bike). Also, the oil injection had been disconnected and he was running it pre-mix so there may be some carb issues as well which I wholly expected either way. Actually, it could have only been a carb but I've gone ahead and ordered this rebuild kit from scooter mercado http://www.scootermercato.com/REBUILDKIT-VNX since my club is already rebuilding a P125 for our fall raffle bike and we will do both at the same time. 8)

As far as the 180 goes Nerd emoticon sounds awesome. I just don't think I want to put more cash into this thing at the moment though since I also have a 1964 GL I am working every day on diligently to have looking and running real good. Having removed the head the other day and dropping the motor in an hour, I am pretty confident that if I don't like the way the 125 is running stock, I can pretty easily kit it in a couple hours when I have the cash to drop on that.

That fender looks to be off a sprint. Makes me wonder a bit... I would talk to the owner a bit more about that bike and see what the deal is with that. Other than that, besides the bad two tone, I would say this is a great deal! I am fighting with myself to not go get that bike. The GL is probably one of the only rarer bikes I would go for. Especially since it is not a Rally or a GS...

It is a bummer about the 2 tone combination they did.. I'm sure it's a quality paint job, just not the best choice... bit of a shame... those guys can paint... something else done quality would have been a "RUN THERE NOW" type deal.. still looks like a nice score.

Yeah, it is too contrasty for sure. It looks stupid and does nothing for the lines of the bike. First thing I would do is send the fender to the trash bin. I would chrome the headset. The cowls and proper front fender would go to my powder coater and be matched to the body as closely as possible. Then you would have a nice looking scooter...

Who knows what is going on with the mechanical side though. In my mind you would have to spend another $1,500 just to get this scooter where it needs to be. Still, a GL at $2,250-$3,000 is not bad.

Well I have no idea what the F is up with this bike but we tore the motor down today and it turned out to be a P200 motor after all on a P125X frame....same frame either way but different VIN number obviously. Needless to say, I am stoked!

It's a 24/24. Crank is shot. The threads on the flyside are stripped. Our mechanic at the shop said it's possible to chase them but he wouldn't and after how much of a bitch it was to remove I don't want to ever have to do that again. So who has a P200 crank laying around?

I've go this one I took out of my P over winter... It's served me well. Guy welded the pin old school (no laser), but it worked great on a fast bike (only thing the first 2 threads on the clutch side are a bit wonky... too many time changing clutch while on the bike (when I was struggling with a bogus newfren-cosa crap job), but a little file and you'd be good to go. PM me if you need it.
