Have a look at Page 81 of this thread. DC United knew the bike well.

Was just talking to a friend who has offered the seller cash to buy the bike last weekend while we were at the FYBO rally. The bike is well done, but the seller is a tool apparently. To rehash, guy pays big cash for a nicely restored bike, doesn't know how to ride it, shreds the cruciform then starts asking too much for a bike that needs to now have the motor split. From the damage done, I'd say you'd have to go through a fair amount of the engine to ENSURE that bits of cruciform aren't in your cush drive bearings, rear wheel bearing and the gears aren't damaged. Gears are expensive. I think the seller doesn't understand his bike isn't worth even his lowered price IMHO due to the unknowns here. Turns out when my friend offered him a price (which i thought was fair personally) he literally texted my friend back (who he doesn't know) 'Yea for that price does your Mom come in the deal?" I mean, who does that? My friend is a capitol police officer, former military, owns like 6 bikes and comes to many rallies. I have tons of respect for him and this dude doesn't even know who he is and berates him via text. Guy is a douche. Honestly, several people in the mid-atlantic have made fair offers on the bike, it's nicely restored, but no one wants to deal with this guy and he's butt-hurt he paid a lot and ruined the bike.

For all the bodges out there that people think they can buy and have a Vespa, this seller got a nice bike then destroyed it. I have no sympathy for him and he's proven he's unwilling to sell and is a dick about it. Wait another year and the price will be sub 2K....only then would I consider dealing with the ass clown. It's not worth any of my money to give this tool an out.

Wow, can't believe someone would send a nasty text message but has his own personal number on the ad for anyone to send nasty texts to.
What a douche.

"100% complete restoration with no expense spared 1974 Vespa Rally 200. 2100 miles since restoration. This rebuild was done by a well-known area Vespa guy. I can direct whomever buys the bike two links on the interwebs about the guy, his work and this scoot.
100% straight body with no bondo or bodging of any sort. German bearings, 24mm Vortex carb w/ matched intake, mazz race crank, MMW high comp o-ring head, stock gearing, sito+ exhaust, 4 plate clutch w/stock springs, SIP bearing clutch center, DRT cush spring kit, flywheel lightened 1.25 lbs, 12v Ducati ignition, Clauss motor mounts, all pascoli rubber, original chrome trim in excellent shape also included, all 3 original keys and set repro keys, original glovebox in matching corsa rosso paint/original glovebox lock and key, a set of never mounted trim mirrors, extra OEM corsa rosso paint, and extra pascoli cowl rubbers. Cruciform was ridden hard and it should probably be replaced. $2600 firm and cash only, and that is a steal for a 1974 Vespa rally 200, let alone one built up like this and in this condition and with all the extra stuff. I have a van with a motorcycle ramp and I can deliver anywhere between Richmond VA and Philly.
I will only respond to texts @ (240)671-974FIVE"

Someone is selling a VB1 wide body for $2,750. Not a GS but not totally a VBB 150 either. Maybe not a steal but I think a decent price for a VB1. He's listing it as a 1957 Super

Yeah, something's not right, like maybe it's not a '57, since 57s have handlebars.

I don't think they were imported in the USA in 1957.

Besides the maybe out of period accessories, what is strange about this scooter?

First off I've never seen crash bars like that. As pointed out there aren't holes for the floor rails. And I don't like it when people have not taken the time to figure out what they are selling. We all know it's not a Super but if I were selling it I'd take the time to figure out what it is.

Also it's on Wyoming....every time I've been up there the people are just weird.

Definitely run the VIN on this one. The seller had a story about the title. Said it would be signed by the real owner (not him) when I came to purchase it.

Could be legit, but it was enough to keep me away.

Why is it that so many scoots are surrounded by dicks and dick based stories? Why can't we just see a decent scoot and buy it without thinking some fucker is ripping us off because the bike is not really his to sell, or will fall apart because someone painted over the blue tac keeping it together when they imported it from some dodgy location?

That smallframe has been for sale about three years, IIRC. I THINK there was a side view picture that MAYBE showed the front wheel a little too rearward. A complete side view would be nice to see.

Is this serious or sarcastic? I can't tell.

This is the law in my state. I could lose both my money and the scooter with no way of getting either back...

"When the seller signs the back of the title, check to ensure the seller's signature matches the name(s) on the front of the title. If someone other than the owner signs the title as seller, he or she must have authorization such as a notarized power of attorney or court order. The seller must give you a certified copy or the original document authorizing them to sign the title. Check the title to see if the seller's signature must be notarized."

I hear ya... I'm totally not trying to be a dick at all. Something is just fishy with that Primavera and in the States it could be an expensive mistake.

It's been sold and relisted on eBay at least three times. And, for that type of money, I want all my ducks in a row. But, that's just me.

As Blackbart has said, that Primy has been up for sale for quite a while. Last I saw, he wanted $2800 for it. Too much for me considering the title snafu.
Alanmac, I hear you about buying scoots with dodgy titles. However, I have been quite lucky with my last two purchases. My 1980 P200 was a former military base scooter so it involved a lot of paper shuffling back and forth, especially because I was buying from the deceased owner's heir. My 1974 Super came with a notarized open title dating back 1989. Again, had to contact the original owner an get an affidavit signed by her before acquiring title.
Sometimes the hassle is worth it, but the price should reflect that. If it does not, I would walk away just as you have.

The Dick gene.
Human nature must have a gene that is triggered when the host detects weakness. Weakness, be it lack of experience and information, naiveté or other perceived lesser position in the food chain must trigger this. Perhaps its ancient dna that at one time assisted the gene pool by allowing those that are not capable of taking care of them selves conventionally to have one more saving grace chance at survival? What I really want to know is why don't we perceive these individuals bullshit completely from the get go?

It actually helped me in reverse. I bought a rally in Phoenix that had been appraised by a scooter shop. ( I don't want to know the name - but I am sure I can find out ). The shop owner told the owner the bike was worth perhaps $2000.00 at the most. 1976 Rally with 550 miles. Her online research said $3500. The scooter shop owner gave her number to the well know Phoenix scooter masters. I could not understand how a bike like this was available anywhere near Phoenix as there are some really great scooterists there. When I called the seller she asked, "was from the shop"? I had no idea what she was talking about. I told her I'd pay the amount she asked or I would walk away. She was rejecting all the calls that were linked to the dodgy shop owner's price recommendation.

Scientists Isolate Dickhead Gene!
This comes from both the internet and New Zealand, so you know it has to be true.

http://theothernews.co.nz/scientists-isolate-dickhead-gene/

"Our research took us down an unexpected path" said Jefferies. "We were looking for genes associated with qualities that might benefit the organism in the short term, however were not beneficial to the species". Essentially selfish genes. The genes are part of the cluster known as the social paradox cluster because by virtue of being completely unattractive they should have died out long ago yet somehow they manage to pass themselves on and worm their way into successive generations despite being completely counter to survival of any group....

So when the next Prius runs you off the road, its not that their an ass hole, its just their genetics silly rabbit. I love that - the social paradox cluster.
