Was just talking to a friend who has offered the seller cash to buy the bike last weekend while we were at the FYBO rally. The bike is well done, but the seller is a tool apparently. To rehash, guy pays big cash for a nicely restored bike, doesn't know how to ride it, shreds the cruciform then starts asking too much for a bike that needs to now have the motor split. From the damage done, I'd say you'd have to go through a fair amount of the engine to ENSURE that bits of cruciform aren't in your cush drive bearings, rear wheel bearing and the gears aren't damaged. Gears are expensive. I think the seller doesn't understand his bike isn't worth even his lowered price IMHO due to the unknowns here. Turns out when my friend offered him a price (which i thought was fair personally) he literally texted my friend back (who he doesn't know) 'Yea for that price does your Mom come in the deal?" I mean, who does that? My friend is a capitol police officer, former military, owns like 6 bikes and comes to many rallies. I have tons of respect for him and this dude doesn't even know who he is and berates him via text. Guy is a douche. Honestly, several people in the mid-atlantic have made fair offers on the bike, it's nicely restored, but no one wants to deal with this guy and he's butt-hurt he paid a lot and ruined the bike.
For all the bodges out there that people think they can buy and have a Vespa, this seller got a nice bike then destroyed it. I have no sympathy for him and he's proven he's unwilling to sell and is a dick about it. Wait another year and the price will be sub 2K....only then would I consider dealing with the ass clown. It's not worth any of my money to give this tool an out.
Wow, can't believe someone would send a nasty text message but has his own personal number on the ad for anyone to send nasty texts to.
What a douche.
"100% complete restoration with no expense spared 1974 Vespa Rally 200. 2100 miles since restoration. This rebuild was done by a well-known area Vespa guy. I can direct whomever buys the bike two links on the interwebs about the guy, his work and this scoot.
100% straight body with no bondo or bodging of any sort. German bearings, 24mm Vortex carb w/ matched intake, mazz race crank, MMW high comp o-ring head, stock gearing, sito+ exhaust, 4 plate clutch w/stock springs, SIP bearing clutch center, DRT cush spring kit, flywheel lightened 1.25 lbs, 12v Ducati ignition, Clauss motor mounts, all pascoli rubber, original chrome trim in excellent shape also included, all 3 original keys and set repro keys, original glovebox in matching corsa rosso paint/original glovebox lock and key, a set of never mounted trim mirrors, extra OEM corsa rosso paint, and extra pascoli cowl rubbers. Cruciform was ridden hard and it should probably be replaced. $2600 firm and cash only, and that is a steal for a 1974 Vespa rally 200, let alone one built up like this and in this condition and with all the extra stuff. I have a van with a motorcycle ramp and I can deliver anywhere between Richmond VA and Philly.
