I threw down what I thought was a low but reasonable bid and figured I would see what happens.

I think the kicker was the must be picked up by 10/15. Not a big deal for me. I have Monday off and Naples is just the other side of Alligator Alley, 3-4 hours round trip. I've gone much further to pick up a scooter!

Actually better than I thought. I picked it up today. At pick up it was a little finicky starting...bump started up and took it for a short ride...nice.

The add said "Comes with some spare parts and whatever special tools I have for it." I was expecting maybe a carb rebuild kit and a clutch holder or something. So what were the parts and tools?

About 10 or 15 new cables
10 or so oil seals
2 P200 gasket kits
Clutch nut tool
Box O'stuff
Original top end, it's been seized but what the heck
Quart of 2T oil
Spare tire cover
original exhaust
Original Piaggio air pump
BBQ rack
Leo Vince exhaust

Trailered it home and it started first kick. I let it warm up a bit then took it around the neighborhood. Holy crap...this thing is FAST.

When the PSP2000 exhaust kicks in...hang on!

The electrical stuff is lighting, (turn, tail and brake) kill switch, horn. I can see that the notorious green ground wire is shot and I'm sure the battery is shot.

Battery's are new to me but I know that there is a ton of info here so I'm not worried about straightening it out.

I also need to research the carb, kit and pipe set up. I'm not familiar with this one.

Malossi 210cc Aluminum cylinder
30mm Dell'Orto PHBH reed-valve carburetor
PSP2000 exhaust (German hand made)
Reduced 4th (so I'm told)

Oh this will be fun!

You know, I posted it only because the reserve was disclosed and it was really low. I figured on eBay it would go for more than $1k, but the way he wrote it it sounded like junk but looked nice (I'm partial to white P200's with checkerboard trim). Glad someone here gobbled it up, and with the "extra stuff" sounds like it is a real bargain.

Gotta post some youtube video of that when you get it all sorted out.

Deal or No Deal?
Pretty good price but not to much info. Looks like they rattle canned it with the old seat still on it. Bodgy? Also is that a split in the frame where the tank sits. I can't tell.

I don't think bodgy, more dodgy... I guess they cut an area out under the seat to lower it, then added bodge seats later... BUT I would assume the structural integrity of the frame is compromised ... It would suit someone who wants to do a cutdown, or with welding skills, not for you, unless $600 is ok, & tou can use it for parts

Someone with better eyes can confirm, but it looks like a US Spec Super. At least the fender is... it has the reflector holes. Looks like the headset does too, but I can't really see it.

Thanks, I agree, not for me. I look everyday in my area. just for the heck of it. I'm almost hoping I don't find something so I won't be tempted. What's up with that?

That is so when something turns up, you can say (to your partner)... Hey, I've been looking for months, & wow, I can justify needing this one, so better buy it.

$1500. 1969 Vespa Sprint, fully functional, runs very well, registered and insured in my name. I just replaced crank and rear wheel (spindle) bearings and seals. Sito+ exhaust, new-ish seat, grips, mirrors. S83 Michelin tires are in good shape. This scooter has spent its whole life in New York State.
It's posted by Anthony of Ithaca Scooters... I didn't buy anything from him, but almost bought a scooter from another MV member that got it from him, and he was VERY helpful in describing the plusses and minuses of the scoot. It didn't work out, but I always appreciated his honesty and time for a scooter he had no interest in. It's up a scoot.net

My local dealer has this 1960 VBB for sale. After seeing so many vintage scooters listed with ridiculous prices, it's refreshing to see one so realistically priced.

The photo is terrible but I have seen the bike and it's in very good shape. The only obvious flaw is a paint crack on the legshield. It's about 5 inches long and would definitely have to be addressed.

Wheels have been switched to 10".

I noticed that one for sale on scoot.net. My first thought was his one was a good reason not to do drugs. Considering the price and how homely it looks, what were they thinking? I wouldn't ride that one for it.

Pictures aren't posting right, but it's red and has seen better days. Looks like it might be original paint, though.

I like this pile of Super but I'm thinking of the stink-eye I'd get if I brought it home. I'd go with the Sprint V motor and 10" fork he's offering as optional.

I like this pile of Super but I'm thinking of the stink-eye I'd get if I brought it home. I'd go with the Sprint V motor and 10" fork he's offering as optional.

Hey MJRally, I've been talking to Joel about the Sprint V engine, just haven't had time to get up there to look at it. Do you know anything about it?

Purchased a few months ago with the hope of back some of its original luster but just don't have time for the project. The engine works great but, as you can see from the pictures, could use some cosmetic work.

This Vespa is an original. I learned from the previous owner that it actually arrived in California from Switzerland and you can still bears its Italian markings.

I don't know much about scooters so may not be able to answer all of your questions but happy to tell you what I do know and show you the thing.
Little spendy.

Someday I'm gonna do the bike in a box thing.... For now it's much easier when they arrive in one piece though. Plus I'd have to decide which bike to part with in order to get a new one - I'm out of room at 3. Now if it were a Rally, I would buy first and figure the rest out later!

Says it fits all Vespa models. I'll bet it's a breeze to install, too.

Man, can you imagine how cool you'd look on a Vespa trike? Facepalm emoticon
