Modern Vespa

There was a GS MK II that sold here at a local auction in Sept. I didn't go, but my buddy told me it went for $8500. I think he bought it and didn't tell me.

It was a very special Mk II with that Mickey Mouse Tail Light. Well worth 8500.

Special because it's US Spec? Is there a backstory there?

It's a damn fine scoot. I saw a ton of pictures and it was immaculate.

The Mickey Mouse Tail Light is from 1966 on SS180s (East Coast only). Was not original to the otherwise mint GS160 that appears original... down to the running in sticker. Truthfully, though... it makes it a better deal. The owner can sell the Mickey Mouse for several hundred dollars and buy an original GS tail light for under 100.

Edit: the more I think about it, the more I think that 8500 wasn't an a terrible price for this scooter... assuming that its all original (except for the tail light of course)

I bid on that bike last April by phone from a hotel in Lisbon. It was at auction in Pennsylvania. I felt like such a player. (Though a player wouldn't have dropped out at 6K like I did...)

I think the ET4 is the most reliable modern Vespa made. One did CBR 2012 and needed only minor things...like a few ounces of oil.

they're quite nice. the Stella's quite zippy. Going through them now, swapped out the battery on the ET, topped off the gas with some SeaGoam, and checking the jetting on the Stella. I found a gas can spout in the Stellas tank which was funny, not as funny as a screwdriver I found in the tank of a p200 once. Gonna do some body work in the coming weeks. Meanwhile I'm pissing off my neighbors with 4 bikes on my sidewalk. Actually woke up to a copy of the Auto Scooter Haynes manual on the seat of my GTS this morning.

When I come to the Flyers' game next month I'll leave you a copy of this

Noted that the reserve hasn't even been met on that GS. I guess it is worth what someone will pay for it.

For $150 obo, this one looks doable. It would make a good rat rod bike. I'm surprised the guys from American Pickers haven't snagged it considering, it has that roached patina they prefer.

I'd bet that's Katrina Patina. There's a P in NJ that was submerged in seawater for days during Sandy. It has the same spotty pattern as this one.

Good call, it's funny how we forget. I'm curious if the cases would be salvageable considering it had been submerged in that mess? I would think the bearings and steel bits would fuse to the aluminum or have some serious electrolysis going on? It would be an interesting piece to hang over the fireplace.

I would love to buy that one, but have a temporary ban on purchasing till I sell a few to recover costs from last time.

Same, id offer him a grand for it in a heartbeat if i didnt have 6 scooters already. Id love to restore that to absolute mint, its too far gone for oily rag treatment.
