My trunk was popped open by accident and therefore the battery died. When I discovered this, I charged the battery. The bike runs like a top, but the key fob doesn't release the trunk nor the seat anymore. Can anyone give me any suggestions? We replaced the batteries in the fob, so that is not it. Could the bike have lost the codes due to lack of power? I will be looking for suggestions.
Thanks

Unlikely that it lost the code. What's likely is that either the batteries in the fob are incorrectly put in or the latch has come loose. On mine, the latch actually somehow 'unhooked'. So here's what to check:

1. For the fob, when you press it(whether the trunk is in range or not), the green small light should come on to indicate batteries. If not, then replace/reinstall new ones.

2. For the seat, it basically is a small wire with a cylinder screwed onto the end of it that hooks through a small clip to allow the cylinder to grip to one side and keep the wire tight. Check the latch to make sure it's hooked in.

Not the battery in the fob
I've been round and round on this on the forum because I still have the same problem. When your battery dies the computer lost synch with the codes. Depending on how long you were without power there are two courses of action.

1) The owners manual has the method for resetting the computer, try this first. (in my case this did not work because the bike had been sitting for about 3 weeks)

2) If that doesn't work you need to get a copy of the workshop manual. In the chapter "remote seat opening" is this:

Zeroing
- Remove the left side fairing to access the saddle
opening receiver control unit indicated in the photograph
- Remove the metal terminal and connect it to a
good earth point, or to terminal 7 (black), for at
least 10 seconds.
- In this operation all the remote controls stored in
the control unit will be deleted.
WARNING
THE CONTROL UNIT CAN PROGRAMME UP
TO 8 REMOTE CONTROLS.
MP3 400 i.e. Electrical system
ELE SYS - 33
Programming
Follow these steps to program the remote controls:
1. Insert the remote control key to be programmed in the steering lock key block.
2. Turn the key to «ON», press the button on the remote control, release the button, turn the key back
to «OFF» from the «ON» position, all within 4 seconds.
3 Wait 1 to 8 seconds.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for 4 times without removing the key.
The control unit confirms the programming has been successfully executed by opening the saddle.

I have not gotten around to trying this yet but will soon. If it works for you please let us know.

thanks,

Holy time machine, batman. Sun Sep 13, 2009 4:44 am.

Before you go removing the faring just try to code the key back into the bike. Do it like 20 times, odds are that will work and you won't have to get into disassembly.

Stick the key in the bike, turn to on. Immediately press the button on the remote for 1 second. turn key to off immediately. Repeat until the seat pops. Seriously, I had to do it like 20 times, but it eventually goes.

Sorry if this is stupid, but I did not get a key fob with remote for opening the trunk. Am I misreading this? Can't find a mention in the manual. I'm tired and may be more dense than usual.

There's a button on the key that pops the seat latch. That's all.

Just checked my key and I don't see a button. I've got a 2010 400 ie, could this only be on older models? I do have the buttons on the dash for saddle and trunk, of course.

I'm pretty sure the 400's have two buttons, one for the seat and one for the trunk

It's a bump in the middle of the key, if you have a full size piaggio key. there's a small led light to the side of it.

If you don't have one then how the f*** are you popping the seat on your mp3?

As I posted above, there are 2 buttons on the dash. The left for the saddle and the right for the trunk. Key must be inserted.

Weird. What do you mean on your dash? That sounds aftermarket. I have an 07 250 and a 09 500 and both are remote keys. Well if your key doesn't have the button on it you can buy one that does and code it to your scooter.

I just checked the wiki manual - there must be a change with the 2010 model. The dash buttons were not there and the key is different - the one pictured has the button and led. My manual is different.
Just to be sure I'm not going crazy, it would be nice if someone could verify this. Razz emoticon

On the newer scoots they have buttons on the silver panel in the center of the handlebars to open the trunk and saddle. Those buttons are hot unless the handlebars are locked. They do not have a remote built into the key.

Interesting. Sounds like a "solution" to the remote control issues some people have. I wonder if the remote control function is still in there though.

Causes a new problem. You must lock the Steering to lockout the buttons, a real PITA, but no remote reciever to smoke.

Your scooter still has the 4th wheel that pops down under 5mph though, right?

I still have the original wife. That's why I have a garage to keep the scoot in. Much better than parking outside a studio apartment.
