I recently purchased the GT Chrome Visor for my GT200 from Jettin' Industries. It looked really cool and thought it would make my Sophie (GT200) happy.

I followed the instructions for installation, both the sent instructions and the linked instructions with photos on their website and everything was fine up until STEP 9.
I could release both the left and right tabs, but the headseat cover stayed connected at the top, despite repeated attempts by myself and several other individuals to get it to release.

I am extremely disappointed, as I got to STEP 9 and could go no further. I thought it is was not worth a hundred dollars or more in damage repair costs from my dealer to install a $24 visor.
Did anyone else have a more difficult time than their instructions suggested or am I just "special?"

Step 9:
Remove Front of Headset Cover
Grasp the front of the headset cover from below and carefully lift upwards to disconnect the internal tabs that hold the two halves of the headset together. You should see the top edge between the two halves separate from each other. Carefully move the front headset cover toward you, being careful not to snag the tabs on the brake reservoirs or anything else in the headset. This operation will require some careful flexing of the headset cover in order to clear all the various parts.

Those are pretty good instructions.
I had much trouble getting this off with the LX. Its just popped off in the end though in subsequent attempts I broke one of the tabs. Regardless, you will likely need to do this at some stage for bulb replacement so do keep at it.

Done this many times. It is not the easyest thing to do.
What I do is carefully lift up on the front piece just behind the brake resevior, this is where the tabs are. Lift and rotate the front piece forward keeping the bottom in place. Once clear of the resevoirs it comes straight off. Just don't force anything.
Hope that helps.

Thanks guys!
I can just hear the plastic creaking as I pull up. The left and right tabs have cleared, but there is just no give at the top. I want to avoid breaking tabs, but I just can't see that happening. I guess I need to work even more on my patience.
Anywho, thanks for the feedback!

If it is not giving then you might have missed a screw somewhere.. I have had my GTS and LX head light assembly off several times each. Yes it is not easy to do, but it will be impossible if even one screw is still in. On the GTS which I would think is close to the same as your GT, there are the two little screws just under the switches, (horn on the left, and cutoff on the right) then there is the single screw at the very bottom under the headlight. I found that if you rotate the bottom of the assembly a bit forward then try to get the tabs over the brake fluid reservoirs, that is comes away a little easier.

Actually, I did remove both screws beneath the the controls on the left and the right, and the screw beneath the headlight. I got the front past both the left and right tabs by the brake reservoirs, but it simply wouldn't separate at the curved top. It was as if there was something keeping it joined there, and despite flexing the cover as indicated in the directions, it simply would not come off.
What a pain!

Sounds like it is being a very big pain. If I could see it I could probably figure out exactly what is wrong. but you are way too far away.. Razz emoticon

No problems installing mine. I took the entire headset off and installed mine at the kitchen table watching TV.

At the very tippy-top there is a large ring molded into the rear of the headseat, on the front of the headset (which is what you are trying to remove) there is a big lump which fits into the ring.

You have probably released all of the fingers and tabs except for that one, which is a bitch.

Keeping the front rotated just enough to clear the already released fingers, push straight up. There is a delicate balance between firm and busting everything. Somehow you are expected to maintain that pressure.

You can do it, I have a few times but it is definitely more trouble than it should be--the whole system is designed just to avoid visible screws and the need for metal inserts.

Good luck.

Thank you!!!
That would explain the resistance! I was beginning to think it was just me!
I suppose I'll give it another try, but that whole fine line "between firm and busting everything" leaves me a little wary. Thanks again everyone for the tips, and thanks, Paul G., for confirming that there was something up there!
