Does anyone wear cowboy boots, full leather ,solid construction, waterproof and they certianly cover your ankles and calf. I know they don't really fit the image of a scooter rider, but does anyone have any experience wearing them on their scooter?

i've got four pairs and wear them on the scooter often for running errands around town. i had my shoe bloke put non-slip rubber soles on them. i'm not convinced that they'd stay firmly on my feet in the event of a crash, though, so for highway riding, i stick with proper motorcycle boots.

I wear a variety of leather soled boots while riding. Once the soles are scuffed up, they grip just fine. So long as they fit you correctly, it is unlikely they will fly off in a crash. There is a reason they make those special hooks to pull on your boots: they are a tight squeeze.

I go with the non-slip side of it. You would'nt want your feet slipping out from under you coming to a stop. Or, when pushing off the center stand in front of your girlfriend at her family reunion. Or, the ocassional dab when you take a corner too tight. Cara Mia doesn't give a hoot about fashion. Although, I do think she' partial to bib-overalls.

I have a pair of Ariat boots that have rubber soles. I feel very sure footed in them, and with the 1 1/2 inch heel, I can reach the ground even better.

let see.... you have a saddle (seat) now for some saddle bags, cowboy boots...... All seems to fit.
Seriously, cowboy boots may give good abrasion protection, but I would question the support at the ankle.Laced boots might do better. My suspicion is that cowboy boots would not protect you as well to prevent an ankle fracture. |

I have these Dingo boots, more for nostalgic reasons than anything (had a pair decades ago that I loved to death, but they had a flat heel, which I prefer). No more flat heeled leather boots these days, what a shame. I actually hate the cowboy heel, I walk in them like a stork (or, call it a dork).
Anyway, for scootering, they are just perfect. Rubber sole and heel, good ankle protection from the harness, and a safe place to stash your wallet ![]() Dingo Harness

I've seen a bunch of really gory crash pictures. You know, the kind where limbs are strewn about the accident scene.
A common theme in those pictures are stray boots that have come off in the crash, or feet with no boots on. These are almost universally sneakers, cowboy boots, or engineer boots. They do come off in a crash. I don't care how well they fit, if they're not fastened onto your feet, they absolutely, positively will come off in a crash. The evidence is overwhelming. |

Many years ago, in a car accident, I had an earring with a post and back come off. I wasn't thrown from the car or anything, but if I hadn't experienced it personally I would have found it hard to believe.

A scooter riders feet are important, that's for sure. Sometimes you need a little fancy footwork to get out of a tight spot. On the other hand, it's a lot like driving a Volkswagen Bus. The only thing between you and a head-on collision are your feet. Let's be careful out there.

Greetings from the center of Cowboyism! 50 miles from Wyoming!
No one wears them out here though. I've seen them at Rodeos, sometimes a horse lesson given at a nearby dude ranch (I have two within a couple miles of my house). Everytime I've ridden a horse, hiking shoes. Rarely, I'll see some guy get out of a sports car dressed to the nines, fringy jacket, cowboy boots, etc. They look funny, I figure they just moved here. Oh yes we had a custom boot store here and out of the hundreds of styles they had three or four cowboy boots. I mean the garish leather work, etc. Supposed to be good for avoiding rattlesnake bites. Hiking boots are what we wear here when we get serious. I have Danners, well respected name here, USA made, mostly. I understand our eight motorcycle cops (in nearest town) also have Danners. But there are other more popular brands too. When off the bike, I just wear Merrill brand casual slip ons. I even sometimes do mild hiking in these. But you should get what you really want. I just want to deflate the myth that we all are walking around like a western movie out here. There are specialized shops, for example, near here there is also a custom saddle maker with plenty of business, but you don't meet many of these clients on main street. |

I also wear Ariat Fatbaby boots on occasion.
![]() I must admit that I have been concerned about them "flying off" in the event of a crash, since they are fairly easy to slide onto my feet. I usually wear them just for the short distance, fairly slow speeds (35 mph) ride to work, thinking that there may be a lesser chance of them coming off at those speeds (however flawed my thinking may be). |
