Did the Allstate ever come as a fender-light? I have seen many handlebar versions from the 50's. I know they were kinda the bottom of the barrel Vespa but just wondering.

The Allstates were just variants of the Vespa. So any imported up until 1957 should more than likely be fenderlights like their Vespa cousins.

I think that you are wrong. I am under the impression that DOT rules made it impossible to sell fenderlights in the states and that all the Vespas exported had the lights moved to the handlebar.

You had the allstate from 1952 on ... BUT the U-model was basically the first Allstate, so to speak - it was the first stripped down, utility model that the Allstates all sort of trended after.

AND...the U-model was NOT a fenderlight.

So, i tend to think that every Allstate was a handlebar model up until 1958 ...but they were NOT fenderlights. They had small headlights of varying degrees on the handlebars.

Correct me if i'm wrong - i'm sorta postulating based on the U model.

Hey, there's a first time for everything. Clown emoticon I hadn't figured the DOT angle.

Technically speaking, the early Vespa Allstate is not a U model. The U model has a specific and easy engine cowl to spot. Otherwise, the U model and up to '54 Allstate are almost exactly the same.

No Vespa Allstate models were ever sold as a fenderlight. People have converted them if you find one.
