I am considering purchasing a Shad SH-40 Cargo Top Case.
If you have one:
What are your thoughts on the general construction and function?
Also, any issues mounting it onto the standard GT rack?
Thanks,

While that is not the same Shad as I have, I like mine a lot and wish it had a little rack up top.

www.JustGottaScoot .com liked that model and it's on my Birthday and Santa Lists.
I saw an other review from a m/c site (motorcycle.com I think) and the author said he was the magazine's m/c stable inventory manager and he was going to standardize on the SH40 Cargo for all of their bikes except when testing cases. |

All, Not to hijack the thread, but do top cases cause the rear tire to wear faster? I've heard this but don't know for sure.

Nice looking top case. With regard to a top case causing premature rear tire wear, I have had the Vespa top case on my GT200 pretty much since I bought it in '05 and my tires wear well beyond the 4000 mile mark. It seems that every 6000 miles is when I am changing them and with or without a top case, that is alright by me. I use Michelin Pilot City tires and find they wear better than the stock tires. (I could maybe go 8000 miles but I don't like to chance it) Also remember that your rear wheel is the drive wheel and will always wear a bit quicker than the front one. Ride safe.

I e-mailed Binetto Group (~Shad USA) yesterday, I got a response within an hour! WOW!
The case comes with a mounting plate (for quick release) and that mounting plate will mount onto the GT standard rack. One of these will be mine in the future... Regarding tire wear... It depends on how much you carry in the case. A few pounds won't make a significant difference. I would be surprised if wind drag puts enough downward push on the rear tire to notice a difference (with all the other variables affecting tire wear). Now, if you do home repair and converted your case into a tool box you may be adding enough weight to notice a difference. i.e. If you constantly ride 2-up your rear tire will wear more. |

I have a Shad SH29 on my Honda and I love it. All Shad cases have what Givi calls "Monoloc" - a feature the smaller Givis don't have.

Now that rack on the top of the Shad SH-40 a good idea. Would be nice if someone did an add on for the existing Vespa topcase for those odd bits that are just a bit too big.

I read in a review the the top rack on the SHAD case comes with a 5-hook bungie cord. I would use the heck outta that.
