Is it Al on the forum here to keeps saying that most of the problems on vintage bikes are caused by the need of the owner to constantly tinker?

It started with a gas leak. I thought my float was sticking, so I took out the new Dellorto float and red tipped needle I installed when I rebuilt the carb, and replaced with the original float and black tipped. Come to find out that wasn't the problem, I just didn't have the screws tight enough on the carb. Problem solved.

Last night, I went to fix the choke cable that was sticking. So I opened up the carb box again to unhook choke cable and see where the sticking was at. Fixed that problem and thought...I should put the new float and needle back in.

Long story short, I had the entire carb out looking for a seal I dropped behind the carb, in the box.

My wife believes I am making up these problems just so I can pull stuff out and put it back.

It's very rewarding to know a machine like this inside and out. I like having the confidence to just pull stuff out and put it back.

That did get long, sorry.

Jeremy

My saying is:

The majority of the "maintenance work" on a vintage Vespa is pure and simple voluntary tinkering. The majority of the remaining "maintenance work" is as a direct result of the aforementioned tinkering.

Been there - done that!

Yeah when I bought mine it was actually working Even my mum has phoned asking my partner why I haven't actually been out on the scoot yet. Tinkering is the only way to learn and there's nothing better than getting your scoot back on the road yourself through the highs and lows of DIY mechanics.

Errrr, where does that bit go again, I know I should have taken a photo first...

Haha..I've ordered carb float and needle too, who knows what the outcome will be..
