Im going to go and buy a rachet set today so i can change the oil on my Fly 150, but before doing so, i had 2 questions:

1.) does the Fly 150 require 1L of 5W-40 full synthetic 4T engine oil like the LX150?

2.) what type/model of the little black oil filter should i be getting?

thanks!

One quart will do. It technically takes 1.1, but there's enough residual oil in the engine to make up for the 0.1.

The oil filter will likely only be available through scooter shops. The part number is 82635R or 82635A

If the exhaust location on a Fly 150 is similar to that on on the Vespa Leader 150s, you'll be better off with some good combination wrenches than a socket set for an oil change because there is no way to get a ratchet and socket on the drain plug without taking the entire exhaust off... and that is a pain in the ass. With the box end of a 24mm combination wrench, you have a good grip on the plug without messing with the exhaust, although you may need to elevate the scooter a bit to get enough swing unless you are using a "stubby" wrench.

sadly, no. order a couple of spares to save yourself hassles in the future ... and ask Silver Streak if he'd be kind enough to re-post his list of 'stuff to order from your scooter shop to save postage and ensure you've got spares on hand when you need them'

Yes, but they also need the Snap-On van to visit before they can change an oil filter...

FFS! Order the filter in, if it looks right, then stab the fecker though the centre with a screwdriver and twist it off.

As per oil, refer to user handbook

Oh, it's a scooter? Since when did scooters have oil filters?

How about Mobil1? It exceeds the GTS standards (I think it is SM vs SG), but someone said it voids the warranty, which I don't understand.

Any enlightenment would be appreciated. I used Mobil1 for 5 years on my GT200, now I have a GT250, and I'm ready to change my oil...

If an oil exceeds the specs, it's just fine.

Pep-Boys and other automotive retailers carry mobile-1.
I run the 5w40 mobile-1 and have had no problems.
One quart does the job.
The oil filter just order one on line.
Filter wrench just put a stainless steel hose clamp on it and tighten the clamp to get some grip on it.
Use pliers on the clamp and it will come right off.
Home depot carries Husky (not expensive) wrenches 24mm or 15/16 works on my et4.

how often do you guys change the oil, i think 4000miles is a little high to be changing it conserding the high reves and the fact Honda motorcycles request you change it every 3000 miles. i am thinking of changing it every 2000miles from now on. do you think that would be a better option?

2000 miles is good!!
Why not it only holds 1 quart.
I think I have done mine 4 or 5 times at about 6500 miles.
I think they only call for every 3000 miles but I like to work on things.

Nah, Genie... I really don't expect everyone to be as obsessive-compulsive as I am! Razz emoticon

Excuse me whilst I adjust my belt AND suspenders...

If I changed my oil every 2000 miles it'd be every other week. I'll stick to the manufacturer's current specs, thank you, not second guess them.

So for me every month or so, at the 6,000 mile interval. Carb'd models would be at 4000 miles, no earlier - except the poor old X9 250 doesn't normally do that in a year (I don't ride it, my son does) so it's an annual thing for that.
