Modern Vespa

I couldn't get a top case in my Giallo Lime color for my '07 GTS250ie, so I git a Givi and want to have it painted.

Of course they can't find the mix chart at the body shop, so I told them I'd hunt too. I know it's "Giallo Lime 928/A", but where can I learn the mix of what makes that up?

Or, they said if they can't find it (and they can't so far), they will come as close as they can.

All advice and replies appreciated. I searched for a couple key words on this site and I either don't know how our searching functions well enough, or it's not on here yet.

You need to have it matched at a paint shop. its a 2 stage paint

base coat yellow matched to a part on your Vespa try not to use a plastic part as they fade in the sun

top coat is just a clear coat.

trust me you will not find Giallo Lime 927A I looked for months and I'm in a good area for paint shops.

Volkswagen or Audi colors come close


I will save you the Pain just get the formulation from eric I just read his page. I wish I had this months ago.

Corrected. I can do modern vespa colors as well, in the same fashion i do vintage ones.

I have no idea what resources you will need ... but I imagine the formulas are readily available from Piaggio. I mean, we can buy paint from dealers in Europe ... I think??? The problem seems to be the that the Piaggio paint has something in it (perhaps lead) that is not legal in the U.S. and Canada.

I asked my dealer in Italy for touch up paint for my Gialo lime scooter when I bought it but unfortunately, that request was ignored.

I'd like to know what the mixture is as well and I don't understand why everyone finds it so hard to match their paint codes. Surely, Piaggio USA could assist?

Here, any paint shop can find the code in their reference mixing charts. It'll either be under Piaggio or Vespa - often in the wrong section!

Codes are nice and all, but in the end the BEST color match you can get is to have a piece of your actual scooter get color scanned... and then have the computer spit out the formula for your painter to mix. Then they can shoot a test strip and you can compare the two side by side and see how they match up.


My website is more for people who want to reshoot their whole bike, and don't have any intact, non-faded sections of their original paint job to scan.

Jim, we have very stringent EPA rules for paints in the US the EPA has got rid of most solvent based paints.

That's got nothing to do with colour matching...

I could not find a Piaggio or Vespa paint in any shop I called In Southern Cailfoina. I never Said it could not be matched.

You won't find the paint as imported perhaps, but you will be able to get some mixed for you though, surely.

It kinda DOES have to do with paint formulation, though.

Many of the old codes had lead in them. My GS160 paint does, for example.

If you get them to spray out a chip of the old paint... then you color scan it, the computer just builds a new, EPA-safe formulation from what it SEES... so whether the old paint has lead, arsenic and cocaine in it, the computer will spit out an exact match with modern tinting and such.

OK ... so a scooter falls over at a dealership in California and the paint is scratched on one cowl. Do they re-spray the whole scooter? I doubt it! Somebody must have formulas for the new colours.

ERic, you don't have 928A mix numbers do you? If so, you get the Bartenders Award and I'd paypal you.

The auto body shop called and said they got a code, but have to 'convert' it to our safety-standards blah-blah-blah..... So, their conversion ended up matching one of the codes for a Mini Cooper Yellow. Now, Mini Cooper's have a few different yellow colors, so he's going to start with
Paint Code 902-7024 (I guess 7024 is a 'chip' code or something). Then they will match closer if needed.

Heck, what's being painted is at least a foot from the body and separated by black, so I think I'll be fine.

My little BuddyFly looks like it's 'smiling'.

This Givi E370 case is the BEST - I love the fact it's a quick-release and becomes a carry case with the push of a button. It's great.

Here's a 2nd picture. And, they gave me all of about a tablespoon of touch-up paint. The color was more of a challenge than they had anticipated. Do you other Giallo owners think I should call them and get the mix THEY used?

Hi Eric, No, I never received a formulation for this color; but I thought you had the older colors only. I knew it was 928A as my Vespa dealer showed me where that's stamped in the scooter.

The Auto place said they found some kind of reference, but as noted in earlier posts, the 'type' or kind of paint is not available in the US, so they found a US-match for what they had found. THAT color was their 'base', and I think it was one of the Mini Cooper yellows. There's also an Audi and VW color that is close, but they chose Mini Coo'. So, as the day progressed, it took longer and longer to match, but by the end of the day I walked to the place from work and it was done. I'm pleased with the color, and I think I'll call them today to get the 'code' or what they used for this. I'm happy to share - for info if you'd like.

So Eric, If the other customer has a 2007, do YOU have the mix-code for a US body shop to mix up G. Lime for a 2207 GTS250ie?

Give them the code, tell them it is a Piaggio code. They matched my Smokey Grey GT200. I purchased Plastic adhesion promoter, base coat, and clear coat, I think the whole thing with shipping was $45.00.

This is the real answer for repairs and accessories on late model bikes. I'm surprised at all this complicated discussion about shipping Vespa paints to the US or attempts to convert from previous codes. You want to match an existing color on your bike - go ahead.

Here's what the body shop gave me:

They started with paint code: 902 chip 7024
Then they said they had to tint it to match.
He said they don't keep track of how they tint, but would re-tint from scratch to match again, if needed.

I got all-of about 1-Tablespoon of leftover paint for scratches.

Thanks UkuleleGenie. I think my paint guy has a scanner so I'll probly just go that route!
