?? I have a dented and damaged front mudguard on a VBB front fork. Everything is undone. The hole in the fender is smaller than the bottom of the bearing cup. Does the bearing cup come off? Am I doing something stupid? How do I get the mudguard off?

Thanks all,

Charlie

You have to drop the entire fork out of the body to get the front mud guard off.

It slides up and off the top of the fork.

The dust cup and the bearing race are both press-fit down onto the fork tube.

Both need to come off. There's a factory tool to do this ( which i have ).. but i used to do it with a propane torch to heat them up... then a flatblade screwdriver and a hammer. You kinda pry both of them up off the fork.

Don't really worry about destroying them in the process. The dust cup costs like 4 bucks and will get destroyed even with the factory tool in the removal process.

The bearing race is practically indestructible.

Great. Thanks for the quick answers. Fork is off. I will attack the bottom of the bearing cup with something and remove it.

Done. And the fork is in the dishwasher.

Thanks,

Charlie
