I have a few friends who are waiting their chance to ride an MP3. My question is this. Would you let anyone take a test ride on yours?
|

Short answer- no.
Long answer- Yes, maybe , if they were already competent (in my opinion, not theirs) on other scooters and willing to be financially responsible. (Most motorcycle insurance policies only cover the named owner.) |

What Paige said.
If they don't know how to ride, as in have their own or had their own scooter/bike the answer is NOOOOOO!!!! Want good reason not too? Search youtube for first time riders. I have let 2 people ride my MP3, my old boss, he has a bike, and one of the former owners of the company where I work. Figured if he wrecked it, he had the money to buy me a new one or get it fixed without even blinking. He almost dropped it pulling out of the parking space. It had a LOT more power than he was expecting. I was seeing a nice Bright Red Paint job, he saved it, Damn Wayne B |

If by friend you mean a person who would only get on your scoot if they knew they had the funds and were willing with no hesitation to pay for any accidents caused by them, then yes.
If by friend you mean a person who thinks since your "his" friend you would never expect them to pay for any accidents, then no. Whats a friend? |

My hubby and a couple of other friends who are longtime riders. I've said I would let my brother take it around the parking lot if he wanted, but he doesn't want to risk dropping it.

I've let a few VERY select friends ride mine, and, as others has said, they were all very experienced riders. The others I have directed to the dealership. That is why they have demonstrator bikes.

I have let two people test ride mine. One dropped it and scraped one side. A few days later, a relative(who was smacked) took it for a spin without my knowledge and laid it down on the other side. Luckily for me, both were minor paint damage that was fixed with my new paint job.

Yes, let a few people I know who ride, take a parking lot spin. But mine is not "brand new". Has a few scrapes from previous owner.

I have and over $5500.00 later it rides like new.
I even asked the Idiot ,"Have you ever ridden a MC before?" His reply,"several times". I'm thinkin O.K. His comment to me after the horrific crashing sounds and as I was pulling the scoot off of him was,"Where's the break on this thing?" Basically you have to get past all of the potential testers preconceived notions because it ain't a motorcycle. |

I let a friend borrow. Jumped on an airplane and went on a business trip. I thought for sure he would like it so much he'd buy one from Rockridge two wheels.
I thought it would acts as the formation of my outlaw scooter club. But then his wife said no. |

I let Maynard (member of this forum) take a 45 mile spin on it. I figured he had one so it would be safe. Besides, I took his for 45 miles as well. Swapped on a 546 mile jaunt.

Wonder if it would work (be safer for you, the owner) to get the rider's license (with motorcycle endorsement) and proof of insurance. Insurance covers the rivers/drivers, at least in my state. That's what my dealer does with his demos.
That might work for anyone who's trying to sell a bike, too. Of course, the short answer is, indeed, no, in most cases. |
|
UTC

Nope and I don't think I would either. Not that I don't trust them but I wouldn't want to be in the position where they may damage my bike.

No one else unless (as I said in an earlier thread on this topic) you put 10,000 dollars in my had and sign a waiver. |

I let my dad ride mine when I was visiting my parents a few months back. He's been a rider for years and asked all the good/important questions before he took it out for a quick jaunt around their neighborhood - questions like, "This obviously isn't a clutch, so I'm assuming the front brake? Wait, no rear brake on the floor, so what the hell brake is this?" and a lot of questions about the tilt lock. Of course, after a brief demo, he's off and riding, in flip flops and shorts. Came back with nary a scratch on bike or dad. He's such a rebel.

I did learn a hard lesson once back when I first got my bike. I was friends with a kid in one of my college classes and I saw him on a scooter. I didn't know he had one. We stopped and talked for a bit. He was curious about my bike. I said, you can take it for a spin if you want. (bad idea) I got on his scooter and it could only go as fast as 25mph. I thought of crap what did I do. At that moment, he started to wobble really bad after stopping at a stop sign. He just about dumped it. He was short to and couldn't reach the ground. He ended up straddling the bike and used his feet to balance, but couldn't stop the bike. He ended up heading toward the curb but barely managed to sop. I ran up as fast as I could and put the tilt lock on. After that, NO MORE. I really learned my lesson. Just don't do it no matter what unless that person has an MP3 themselves.

Tell them that if they have a M license they can do a test ride at the dealer. Mine? If they put up $10,000 security. I don't have the same insurance the dealer carries.

Regardless of endorsement and insurance my concern would be liability. I might allow a good trusted friend with the above to ride. But absolutely no way with anyone else. The last thing is need is a civil or criminal case against me for allowing an unlicensed driver/rider to get on my scoot. With my luck he/she would have a wreck and seriously injure or kill someone.

I have let the co-worker of my insurance broker who had "apparently" driven bikes for a few years. Dropped it on the right side after 5 meters causing $350 worth of damage, final bill was $900 with labor but he was a good sport and paid for everything.
My sister's boyfriend who had driven dirt bikes before take it for a jaunt around the neighbourhood, no eventful happenings and now he wants to get his M license. Last was my cousin, who had only ridden his friends' SS a few times in a parking lot. Let him do a few loops in an empty roundabout. Bike's off limits now. ![]() |

I have for a couple of people that I ride with regularly, and am comfortable with their skill level and maturaty level. One friend ended up getting one of his own so now we can either scoot or moto on rides. When asked by persons I don't know their riding skill, the answer is no.
