Modern Vespa

I'm sending this on behalf of one of the San Francisco Scooter Girls Ride Planners:

Hey Everyone:

As many of you know the Adventure Ride was called off this past Saturday on account of the weather, but we promised we would pick a weekend for a do-over.

We're DOING IT on Saturday, September 26th!

The ride will leave at 12 noon from Caffe Greco in North Beach.

There is plenty of bike parking out front and we will be able to grab coffee and pastry before we head out.

The Details again:

Please be gassed up
It will be a longish ride with 3.5 - 4 hours worth of "in the saddle" time
Approximately 100 miles long
We will be riding in Marin
We will be crossing the golden gate bridge both ways - the toll to come back is currently $6.00 cash or you could bring your fast track.
There is no support truck
The views are lovely

It will be a technical ride (this means):
Some of it will be fast - on the freeway
Riders will need to have good Group Riding Skills
There are challenging twisties
Some of these twisties are on narrow downhills and will need to be shared with two way traffic
We will likely encounter some gravel, the odd rock here and there, and a few San Francisco style Grade A pot holes, etc
We do not recommend this ride for our newer riders

Breaks:
We will stop for a short scenery/picture break about an hour into the ride, but there will be no gas available here. We will stop for gas and a 20 - 30 minute break midway at Pt. Reyes Station and we will stop for gas again in Mill Valley before we get ready to head back over the bridge.

I have out of town visitors that weekend (yes, for Folsom Street fair ), so I wont be able to make it either.

If you need a rest stop with a bit of a view of the headlands, I'd like to offer up my condo. Just off the freeway and on the Sausalito/Mill Valley border, there are gas stations nearby for people to gas up at. Don't know if it would work or not...and if it doesnt..I'm blaming Pistol Pete! It was his idea...

Ok I gotta get some rethreading work done on the scoot, I'll be there as long as the oil stays where it should. It'd be a good excuse to have barry reattach my speedometer. I've been wanting to ride in this area for a while now.

SFSG are some of the most welcoming folk you'll ever meet.

Make sure you're up for an adventure, though! Last time I saw the route it looked like a good fun time.

I plan on riding over from Stockton.

Would it be possible to meet up with anyone going over from the east bay?

Me too and what's an "adventure ride?" will we be fighting dragons or battling huns? Just seems like an odd, especially since your description of the ride seems to imply that it's just a nice long group ride.

Sounds good to me. So far it's just me that will be going. I'll be heading over on 580 to 238 to 880. Do you know of a good spot to meet on 880 or ?

I know that there is a Giants game tomorrow so I expect a lot of traffic heading to the city.

Those coming across the new bay bridge "hairpin S-turn", be ready for stopped traffic. Three weeks post construction, idiot cagers still slam their brakes.

There were about 12-13 of us, no breakdowns or accidents, and the weather was spectacular and hot!

Was it a long ride? It depends on what you consider a "long ride!" Mark and Enzo rode up from Santa Cruz, Lydia & her man hauled their scooters from Sacramento, Bagel rode up after the San Jose parade, and Joyclin rode all the way from Stockton!

Pete took photos, of course.

It was a long day for me but definitely worth it. I left Stockton at 9:15 a.m - arrived home around 9:15 p.m. Great ride!!! and at times very hot. Here I thought I was going to be escaping the heat from the Valley. Not!
Thanks to those that organized and led the ride. (sorry, I'm not real good at remembering names)

yep. Was a nice ride. I put 270 miles round-trip from Santa Cruz. Somebody said their thermometer had 102 degrees up on Mt Tam. Beautiful views, nice curvy roads, but more traffic than I'm use to down in Santa Cruz on the mountain roads. Lotsa fun.
