Ditto for me too. I actually figured it out last night; and then today a friend-rider saw a pic and said I likely should have left the chrome back end piece "UP" instead of installing the base of the top case on it when down
What say you out there? |

Mine came installed with the Scoot, so I posted a pic of what it looks like from the dealer. Looks like my rack is in the down position. Pic below and here is a link I found discussing the install for you. https://modernvespa.com/forum/topic53164?highlight=gts+topcase+install

The topcase is installed on top of the folding rear rack, thus the folding rack has to be in the folded down position.

There is a black clamp that holds the rack down, and the top box actually screws into this. The clamp is a bitch to put on (you need 3 hands!) but after that the fitting is easy. Don't forget the lock nuts underneath, to put these on you'll need a long socket. I cant remember what size, but its metric.

The flip-down part of the rear luggage carrier is not just for looks. It IS the part of the carrier that supports whatever you are carrying - be it a topcase, or just something fastened/tied on to bring home, or whatever. I just installed a topcase on my GTS250 about 3 days ago, and I reversed the springs (which, BTW, was a PIA but doable) so that they would hold the flip-up piece in the down position all the time, and it works perfectly. If those springs were left in their factory installed position, they would be trying to spring the topcase up all the time, pushing it against the stationary part of the rear carrier at an angle (and the topcase is extremely light when empty) and it would look ridiculous. I also used small pieces of double-back tape between the clamps for the topcase base and the chromed rack so it wouldn't be scratched. Good luck with your installation. Once complete, it all looks very good. Sorry, I don't have a pic to show tho.

Thanks! I will post a pic next week after part of my 'top' of the topcase gets painted. I held down the rack with zip ties (which I believe to be the next best invention to duct tape!). I hope that works. I also did something that the Buddy installers did for that topcase: I mounted it about an inch away from the little chrome part that sticks Up behind the seat. I use that as a handle and I can get my fingers around it. I'll show y'all next week.
