Modern Vespa

Alright everyone, I've been wanting to get a p-series for a while and I saw this in my daily craigslist search. What do you think, the price seems too low?

if it's true, that's steal, but it's probably a scam or stolen. wouldn't hurt to go look, even if it looks rough for a bike so new. I'd definitely check the vin before giving a penny.

i talked to the guy, i don't think that it is a scam. i'm going to go try and look at it tomorrow-it's like an hour away. i know that i will need to do some work on it, but i would hate to let a good deal go by.

The $150 luggage rack looks EXACTLY like the plastic bottle holders that soft drink drivers use to ferry their product into stores. My guess is that it actually cost $0 because you can usually walk behind any grocery store and have dozens to chose from. In assorted colors too!

Why has a new bike been ratted out already, complete with a big ding on the front fender?

With that said, if it is still running new $500 would be a steal. Gymkhana bike anyone?

yeah that basket does look like it was swiped from heb but it is attatched to what looks like a chrome rack. I asked him about any other damage and he had mentioned the dent in the front fender.

i was just telling my girlfriend about how he had alreaded sprayed it so soon. i'm hoping that it is just to cover up scratches.

I think the "150 dollar luggage rack" is the chrome front rack on which the crate is sitting, not the crate That would be about right.

Very low price in my opinion... yeah "it's a stella" but they're solid scoots with modern brakes and so on... not a plastic pos. I've never seen one that cheap. I've also never seen one in that condition, so that might be why 8)

Sketchy how ratted out it is. Definitely check up on the vin and probe the back story.

Sometimes shit happens to scoots, so I CAN believe it's legit, but it bears some good solid inspection before buying

do they stamp the vin the same place that the vespa factor did on p's?

the thing is, even if it has more problems apart from the body work, i wouldn't be able to tell. so i don't know if i should just wait for my vespa in shining armor or jump on this frog, if you will.

how does a bike get that beat in four years?

it doesn't look that bad... but why the black primer? that would be my one clue that it might be stolen, or maybe a salvage?... someone paid $3500 for that (or more?) just a few years ago... seems like it became a rat bike awfully fast.

that said, if it's not stolen, it's definitely worth it!!

The easiest way to tell if the Stella is legit is the existence of a title. If he has the title, and it's in his name, then you should have no worries on that front.

This looks very much like a rat bike in Austin our son was looking at for our grandson about a year ago or so. It was on craigslist for a very low price, and had been ridden hard and put away wet. Might be the same scoot.

You should see how people ride their Stellas around here. Sometimes I wonder if road rash on the panels came standard from the factory! Not everyone babies their scooter. Some ride them HARD.

The bad spray job screams stolen to me, but keep us posted what you find.

Well I woke up this morning to head to work and the seller texted me saying that "someone just came by and took it off [his] hands". i think that most likely it was stolen. i couldn't really get any information from him about the scoot, the stuff that someone who had been riding it daily for 8 mos would've known. every question i asked him seem to put him on the spot and the answers were preceeded by long akward pause. needless to say not a good sign.

so i will wait and just keep saving for a p200 or maybe a low-priced non-stolen stella.
