I would really love to buy a GTS 300, but unfortunatley i really cannot afford to put that down that much cash.
Are there any comparable scooters that are similiar to the GTS but not as expensive? (cc wise)
Thanks in advance.

how about an aprilia scarabeo 200. The dealer here in Michigan was selling his OTD for 3200.

SYM Citycom 300i. Pretty nice scooter. I found it to feel a little heavy when I test rode one but apparently the reliability is top notch. A local Vespa dealer who sells them says the SYM brand have been very, very good.
I did some calculations just a couple of days ago and by the figures the Citycom has a little more HP and torque than the GTS 300 but weighs a little more. They should perform similarly. Good under seat storage by the way! ![]() Dave |

The sym makes 17.3 ft lbs of torque and the Vespa makes 22.3ft lbs of torque. If you add the fact that the SYM weighs 75 pounds more than the Vespa you will realize the Vespa completely destroys the Sym in performance and power to weight ratio.

You'll get about 90% of the performance of a Vespa GT/GTS. Vespa copied the Honda powertrain architecture 20 years after the Elite was introduced and uses it today in the GT/GTS. |

What kind of price range are you looking for? There's a lot out there.
Aprilia is doing a special Scarabeo 300ie. Anyone know if that's coming to the US? |

In general, just steer clear of any scooter made by a Chinese manufacturer. Unfortunately, with most Chinese scooters, you get what you pay for: not much. Some folks get lucky, and get decent ones. But more often than not, you'll end up spending the money you "saved" on the cheap scooter by replacing parts and taking it in for service all the time.
Best to look for a really good deal on a used scoot, if you need to stay in that price range. |

Does it have to be a 250? You could probably get a 150 used for around that much if you looked. If you go to other brands keep it well known. Honda,Yamaha, etc. Kymco has a good line of scooters. There are A lot of cheap chinese scooters out there and you get what you pay for. Keep looking on CL and the for sale area on this forum and you might find one. Good luck

DineshD wrote: i was also looking at Lance scooters, are they reputable at all?? http://www.lancepowersports.com/vintage-150 As far as quality, Lance is probably among the better of the importers of generic Chinese scoots. This means their junk is slightly better than some other junk that looks exactly the same. It's easy to hate on the Chinese scoots and sometimes the anti-Chinese rhetoric takes on a slightly racist tone, but the fact is these cheap scoots coming in and being resold under a variety of names are for the most part not good. Not Taiwanese good. Not Japanese good. Not Italian good. Lance doesn't get good marks as a company either. Little customer and dealer support, warranties often not honored, sleazy business practices. For $2K you won't find a new scooter anywhere near a GTS in terms of quality, reliability and performance. You'll have a hard time finding a good used 250cc-300cc scooter at that price. You can get a 50cc Genuine Buddy for $2K. Otherwise, you're probably looking at a used 150cc-most likely Japanese or Taiwanese. EDITED TO ADD: VEZPA wrote: About the best new scoot (over 50cc) you can get for that $$$ is Kymco. They are a good brand. http://www.kymcousa.com/showroom/scooters/agility125/index.html |

Good advice in this thread. If you want a bigger scooter (200-250) for $2000 or so, I'd look for a good used Kymco or Sym (both Taiwanese makes).
This for example: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/mcy/1369911352.html I have a People 250 and couldn't be happier with it. Here's a used Agility: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/mcy/1366109325.html You might also drive over to Noho scooters. He carries Sym, Kymco, and Genuines and those are more in your price range than the Italian makes. The first Kymco is a decent price, if it's in good shape. |
