Figured I'd get a non biased answer here. I recently purchased a new 300 GTS and now my wife thinks that I'd be getting rid of my other (2) 50cc Hondas. I hadn't planned on doing that. She said that it only seemed natural that I'd NEED to get rid of them since I couldn't ride them all at once. Just looking for some reassurance that I am not the only one that feels a need to hold on to their scooters. Until she brought this up, I actually have been searching Ebay for a vintage Vespa. I really feel that I have a need for that. Thanks for any help on this matter.

As someone with 5 bikes (one scoot and 4 M/C's), I'm probably have a biased opinion. Being able to switch bikes now and then is important to me. I haven't kept every bike I've ever owned, just the ones I really like. I'd love to get my hands on a vintage Vespa too. Perhaps offload one of the Honda's.

Well I've got a LX 150, a GTV and a Piaggio BV 200 in my garage now. But I am trying to sell the Piaggio.
I haven't heard the " you can't ride them at the same time" yet.. |

It's really nice to be able to have more than one scooter. What if one of them needs service, you'll always have a back up for riding. Also, the different scooters may serve different purposes, some for long rides, other for short rides, some for highway riding, others for in city riding. If you can afford them all, keep them all.

Yukihime (the GTS300 Super) is my commute scoot (on the freeways) and sometimes my group ride scoot, depending on the route and my canvas for mods and magnetic decals. |

Perhaps she just thinks that you merely 'WANT' to keep them, very much different from NEEED! You just need to better explain it.

Yeah, when I got my GTS, I told my wife "of course" I would sell the LX.
I just haven't seemed to get around to it....... The other one does come in handy when one is in the shop. |

Didn't I read somewhere "He (or she) who dies with the most toys wins."? Just explain that you are doing everything you can to be the most successful husband you can be. Something for her to brag about at the nail shop.

You should've told her that she only need a pair of shoes then.
And yes, you are weird. And no, you are not weird. Like said above, if you can (you're not short of money and you have the space), why not? |

We had to buy a house with a three car garage for the bikes. Since neither of us is interested in really selling any of them, I bought a shed for the lawn impliments.

I have just one LX 150 and so I may wish for more I won't let my first sit.
She (Hillary) is fit to my butt and always ready to go when I am. I can't see how others can deal with other scooters. She is me and I am her. This is how I have lived with my wife for 30 plus years. This maybe a strange opinion but it is mine. Paul |

GT4ME,
Do you want to be happy? Then make mamma happy. The key word starts with a C. No, I mean compromise. There are libraries full of books about how to do that. Just pick your favorite one. |

My second wife pretty much thought along the same line as yours, so I traded her for a black '56 Chrysler 300 Deluxe. I then sold the Chrysler and put that money down on a '58 Panhead. That was the first year for the swing-arm rear end, you know.

I would have loved to keep my LXV 150 when I upgraded to a GTS 300, but the wife wasn't keen on that. Lack of garage space and funds. If I could have convinced her to start riding, that would have been a great excuse to have the two. Unfortunately she isn't showing any interest in anything more than an occasional pillion experience, so I had to trade in the LXV. Made me sad but it was worth it since I love the GTS 300 (and my wife).

Sorry Ladies out there... but this has to fall into the " Wife is trying to Control you Bin " At which point, explain that you had no intention of selling the other scooters, and eventually she will get it, and that should be the end of it.
The shoe thing is a very valid point.... if she needs more than one pair of shoes.... then she can either understand your need from more than one scoot, or she can keep her nose out of the garage..... ![]()

Wife rides Honda Metro and I'll use it when she's not using it...which has gotten to be an issue ...for short runs.
The GT200 is for my use. If it were just me riding...I'd still keep the Metro for around the neighborhood riding...it's fun and get's a fair amount of compliments! |

KEEP THEM. I didnt but wish I would have. I bought them in 2003 and sold them in 2005. My kids are now 13 and 16 and could be riding them. I would still ride them.

I am all for having a variety of rides, including short trip, long trip, backup, etc... but unless each metro his its own special personality, I would sell one (but only one). The exception is if you and someone else both zip around on them.
The vintage I would talk to her as an addition, since it would probably be the Sunday ride. |

Getting carried away
I had six plus a trailer. Now I'm down to three and putting the trailer up for sale this week. I decided to keep two GTS and the ET4. I decided that riding is more fun than buying used and fixing them up.

I just bought my third one-bv500- this morning. I use my buddy to commute to work where I can park it at a bike rack with the blessing of the university, my vespa gt200 because I love it and it is better for my journeys around town on faster bigger roads, and bv500 for highway (I was always too chicken to take the gt on the highway ). So I think 3 is the perfect number.

OK, I can stand only so much of the argument about the shoes before I need to step in. Someone needs to defend the poor unrepresented shoe lovers on this forum.
Shoes are much cheaper than scooters, don't require hours and hours of maintenance, don't require an extra stall space in the garage for storage, don't make the husband yell obscenities when something isn't working right, and don't cost a small fortune to maintain. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I have to agree with Genie on this one, I like lots of both. |
