Ever time I go to post a reply, the previous image disappears?

It depends, if the image was hot linked from a hosting site then it will show. If it was via an attachment to that post, then it will not show.

Thanks Benny, I was wondering about that, too. I never noticed it before until lately.

If you want to quote such a picture, you need to (PC) right-click on it, select properties, copy the location URL of it (top line) and then paste that image URL into your response.

Well I have to share what little knowledge I have around here. You my friend know way more about the innards of our scooters than I ever will.

I actually get grumpier when people quote 10 pictures just to say 'Nice pics' at the end. Total waste of everyone's resources, and a RRPITA to those who might be on dial-up.

Mission Impossible!

Besides, sometimes you need to quote (repeat) an image. I hope your veins don't bulge out too much then Razz emoticon

Not when there's a point to the repeat - but there rarely is.

But when there's zero point and just laziness on the part of the responder who can't be arsed to edit the quote, then yes.

I'm glad they get clipped, Some other boards you can't control that,
It gets quite annoying sometimes when you have quoted pictures in the message.

Windbreaker, thanks for the tip. I agree with jimc that it isn't usually necessary to re-post pictures in a reply, but now and then it is useful. Like for replying to posts by louisq, who usually only posts in picture form (and for rattling jimc's cage, too).

Totally agree Jim. I am not on dial up but our service is unbelievably slow at times. When people quote text with photos ... over and over again I just give up on that thread and move on to a different topic. I takes too damned long to download all that crap. It's not a very thoughtful thing to do and what is the point of it anyway?

I'm curious why the image, when quoted, would have to load a second time. Wouldn't an image that had appeared earlier in the thread be cached in your browser's cache?

Depends on the browser settings. I use M$ IE7, and its cache setting is currently 'automatic'. This does speed up (slightly) topics with many images if in the same session - but not in a new session. Just going back to the forum home page seems to start a new 'session' as far as this local end is concerned (even if it does not at the server end).

So I have to wait for all the images to re-load each time I re-enter a topic.

It may be a SMOP - but if the default posts-per-page were reduced to 20 instead of 40 for the picture-intense boards (Rideout Reports etc) then the frustration might be alleviated.

For work purposes, I empty my cache several times a day. I sell yacht charters and use online availability calenders for several different companies. Many of them are using crappy systems and as a result, I have to empty my cache in order to upload up-to-date and up-to-the-minute info.

If an image appears on page one but I click on page two of a thread, then I am downloading the same image I already saw previously. It's just annoying.

It's all a learning process, I just found out how
to use PhotoBucket and now I will try my hardest
to post there and have it linked to the topic. I have
learned a lot about posting and thanks to many posts
I beleave I am getting the hang of it.
