Just putting the finishing touches on the 1974 Rally 200 I aquired as a basket case. When I got it, the oil injection had been removed and the drive hole plugged. I have had it overhauled and the injection restored. My question is, what is the best way to do an initial start on this fresh engine. I intend to bleed the oil line to the oil injection input in the air box but how would one ensure that the engine is not oil starved during critical initial start up? Any assistance would be appreciated.

1- pull your plug and kick like a madman to prime the pump
2- use a syringe to squirt oil into the pump tube
or
3- run a litre or 2 of pre-mix in the fuel tank
in all cases, put a small air bubble in the oil line, if it moves toward the pump, your good

+1
from what I have read the injector is pretty bullet proof.

Rally oil injection question
thanks for the quick response. I received the Rally basket case a few months ago, and it was a "True Basket Case." It had sat, partially disassembled in the garage of a friend of mines mom. She wanted the garage cleaned out and my friend said go ahead and take it when I expressed interest. Had NO idea what I was getting myself into. Assembling one of these is like a Chinese Puzzle! I HATE the cables..

Anyway, its close now and here are some before and after pics. The Photo color is off because of the camera. It is actually Bright Red. It s now converted to 12volt with no battery.
Keep in mind I have a ways to go still, so Im still open for suggestions. In retrospect, I wish I had chosen a more conventional color but No way Im painting it again. I plan on looking for another basket case and doing this again however, unless of course this one causes the divorce.
Once its finished, I will try to upload a pic of the final product.

I also primed the pump by taking off the top cover and putting oil inside the chamber with a similar project.

There was an 80s rap group called Stetsasonic.

What do you know , it Started!
Woo Hoo, the Chinese Puzzle, aka my almost restored Rally started today.
Kicked like a crazy person today with the spark plug out. Oil bubble didnt move a bit. I mixed a little oil in a small amount of gas and started kicking again with the plug it. It sputtered to life and the bubble in the oil line started moving in, so its definitely getting the oil now.
Not running great but its brand new so I can expect that at first. Just waiting now for a few misc parts and this project is all over but the shouting, and a hell of a lot of polishing, my painting skills SUCK.

Now Im thinking about finding another one, as I have learned alot with this one. I was shocked how many times I had to remove stuff I had installed because the next item couldnt go on with the previous parts. You absolutely gotta know what to put on first before you start assembling..
Even sputtering a bit (im sure the mixture is way off) it sounded fantastic.
Since the oil injection is definitely working, it has to be running very rich since I spiked the gas a tad.
Once the new seat shows up for Scooterworks along with a few other misc bits and pieces, this thing is road worthy. Ive already been hit up to sell it 3 times but after the torture of my first restore, there is no way that it is going anywhere.
Thanks for all the advice folks, I will definitely be stalking this forum from now on.
