Modern Vespa

I have had several compliments since buying my 300 Super but my absolute favorite is when I see or hear someone look at my scoot and say " Oh Wow, It's a Vespa".

I guess they were expecting a Chinese Junker.

I get comments about mine all the time....How much did it cost? and how many MPG I get....
I always comment I bought it for $50 at a garage sale, and it gets 150 mpg!!!

I don't count this as a compliment as such, but most memorably I've had "you don't look half as gay on that as I thought you would"

From my wife's aunt: "you look really cool on that, like an Italian"

I told a guy in traffic that his mint 80's Jag XJ6 was a beautiful car and he said "thanks, you have a nice Vespa also"

I like the comments from the older folks. "I remember those from my trip overseas" or "I used to ride one way back when." They always have a smile on their faces.

I get lots of compliments on my Vespa too. I think it's funny when I'm out with my boyfriend and he has his motorcycle and me with my Vespa, no one asks about his mc.

At times While I'm out on my GTS I may not be in the

yes and it's easier to do the riding test on a scooter
then a motorcycle.

Ever notice how people will smile when they see you're riding a Vespa. probably wishing they were too!

Earlier this week a guy pulled up beside me and asked "How fast does that thing go"? I told him about 80 and he said "Yeah, it must because you were really flying back there". I told him that I had been to Europe and when I got home I had to have one. He was very enamored with my scoot!

Funny. I was giving my ET2 a quick clean-up before I took her to the dealer to trade her in and a guy I've seen in the neighborhood came up and said "Oh, a Vespa". Ok..... Turns out he has a 49 yr old model in his garage from when he and his brother toured Europe on them in 1960. The guy had such good stories-including the day they got busted by the east german police for using banned Marks..... The grin on his face was totally worth it.

(I also mentioned that if he wanted to sell it I would probably know where to sell it.)

Made me sad to drive my ET to the dealer to trade her for a less-classy-looking, but more affordable BV. Sigh.

It's only a good story because they let him go - I wouldn't have wanted to have a run in with the East German police! It was tense enough just going through the checkpoint into East Berlin when I was there in 1987...

My favorite compliment is when I get a "Thumbs Up" from a biker, in passing. Not a wave but a THUMBS UP!

I get a shit eating grin on my face after that and think to myself "Yeah, dat's right I'm Baaaaaaaad."

No, I don't think they were expecting a Chinese Junker. I think they were surprised to see Vespas again in the US. At least that's my take from the many questions I get.

A brand needs to be attractive to young buyers, but if Vespa wanted, they could have quite a market with the geriatric set.

While parking at Publix (a Florida grocery chain) the other day I see an older lady who had to be in here 70's walking towards me pushing her grocery cart. As she is walking past me she stops and says, "Can I go for a ride with you?". I looked at her and she just smiled and kept walking. Made my day.

Heh.

I had a couple walk by mine (after just parking their LX) and the girl say to her BF:

Oh look at that one! What is it?

And he replied: "It's not a Vespa honey so who cares?"



I just smirked.

I had a cute old man in his 80's ask me how fast my scooter went. When I told him it could get up over 60 mph, he said I can't go that fast when I take him for a ride.

Another time a guy asked if that was a Vespa and when I replied yes, he said he thought so. He had one about 40 years ago and he liked how the modern ones still kept the classic lines.

My favorite was when an admirer looked it over and said, wow, its a "real" Vespa.

I had a nice guy from India approach me the other day and ask me with a little surprise in his voice if that was a Vespa. He mentioned that he had a Vespa in India when he was younger and it was a lot of fun. He was surprised to find out that this was a twist and go and that he he rode the shifty type back in India. It was really cool talking to him about scooters!

Ha Ha Ha, I should say that.
