Hi guys,

I'd like to talk to you about a helmets.

A year ago, when i Restarted to use my Vespa, I bought this one ...

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

It's Caberg V2 407 and it's really good helmet . I payed it 130 euros what mean less than 200 dollars or 160 pounds ...

Everybody have recommended to me to buy a full face helmet because it offer the best protection to you in the case of traffic accident ... And I did good to buy this one, because form first january in Serbia will be not permitted to ride a motorcycle or scooter over 125 ccm with an another type of helmet ... of course flip up will be legal to wear too ...

What kind and marque is your helmet ??? What do you think about your helmet ??? How do you rate it ??? Is it good ???

Have your say

I've got an open-face one (Zeus ZS or something) and a full-face one (HJC CL-SP). I wear the full-face one whenever possible, but some days when it's too warm I tend to pick the open-face one. I've actually got a third one... a half-helmet thing that I bought on a whim but almost never worn (and on the one or two occasions I wear them I fully understand the risk I'm taking).

Helmets here in New Zealand (like most other things, really) are really expensive compared to USA-based online shops and I'm tempted to buy my future helmets online.

When I got my 50 in June, I just used a helmet a neighbor gave me.

Now that I've traded, I also want something full faced for winter and that will look better with my graphite black, but still has good visibility.

How would I rate my helmet? How would I know, I haven't hit anything with it yet. From what I've seen, helmets around here seem to be more of a fashion statement, than anything else. Something to chat about while enjoying some fine wine. Did it ever occur to you that in an accident you're just as apt to land on your ass, as you are your head. And, if a semi-truck center-punches you at 70 miles per hour, that beautiful new $500.00 Shoie just became his new hood ornament. Get real folks. Pay more attention to your riding skills and less time to the latest trends in helmets, designer leathers, and BMW boots. And, Depcor. Thank you for your service.

By the way, bad news for potential U.S. owners: the Schuberth J1 is not DOT approved and apparently Schuberth has no plans to sell it in the U.S.A. It does conform to the ECE 22-05 standard though, so it's legal for use by European riders.

Good .. I see that everybody in this forum pay attention to itself safety and it's very nice.

When I will be going to replace this my helmet, I'll probably still loyal to Caberg because it' really reliable helmet maker and they're among very few helmet makers to don't make helmets in China. THeir helmets are entirely produced in North Italian City called Bergamo. I have been there and I saw How much attention they're paying to every single detail on helmet. In the management of this small company and in R&D department are working very passionate people who will be rather shut down the production than transfer it' production lines in China ...

Chatting with some traffic policemen and some other people who are experts in this area I've got to know that all helmets have to be replaced with new one after a couple of years. And of course in the case of accident or some other kind of impact.

Of course I agree in some things with J D Hart, but good helmet is very important too, because non depends everything of our ride skills and our attention in traffic .

Here's mine - Z1R Strike. Very good, basic, full-face helmet. The most important thing for me (after protection, of course) is that it fits my head very well. YMMV

I currently use a HJC Symax II Modular. I have never felt hot, even in 105*F + temps. The helmet breathes well and it works great with glasses, you don't need to take them off. The side-to-side vision area is excellent in this helmet and I haven never felt claustrophobic

I've got the same helmet. It's pretty comfortable (I'm an XXL head) and a fair bit quieter than the 3/4 with a bubbleface I was using before I got the 700. I had originally bought the chin flap as well (since it was only 10 bucks) but it turns out that it was causing my glasses to fog when I wore it, so I leave that part off.

I bought it as a replacement for this one after we slid along some tarmac together:External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text
It did fine at the time and the thing just seems to fit my head so much better than any other I tried on. And it was blaardy cheap too.

I originally chose this next one one without realising it was a Rossi rep, but decided I liked it enough to still get it. Nothing against Rossi (I think he's a legend) but I would have felt a bit of a fraud on a scooter with a racing helmet, but not so much of a fraud I wouldn't wear it.External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text
Ended up a moot point anyway since the AGVs just seemed not to want to fit my head.

Toshi - yours was the one I really wanted (well not yours, but that model) but I couldn't find it anywhere and wasn't going to buy one without trying it on.

Until yesterday I was using the O'Neal SC-1 Element (built-in Bluetooth). Helmet was 3/4 and comfortable, but the Bluetooth component went bad in 2 separate helmets so I had to send them both back to the seller for a refund.

Now I'm wearing my old RF-1000 from when I was riding a full size m/c.

I beleave I had the visor first on a cut
down full face visor I modified in 2003.
As you can plainly see on the flag pole. I originally had it on all clear but the fucking sun blinded me so I cut in and then painted the inside red to match my ET4.

Have a Nexx X60 Air Helmet. For me the most comfortable helmet I ever owned. Keeps my head cool. Only gripe due to being an open face helmet is the wind would irritating my contacts when traveling about 40mph'ish.

Also have a Shoe RF1000 Dragon, though not as comfortable as the Nexx, it does a great job blocking out the wind. Visor gets fogged up though, because I breath through my mouth.

I have to do a correction ... in the opening message I wrote that the price of my helmet is 130 euros = 200 Dollars = 160 pounds ... the conversion from euro to British pound isn't good ... the price in British Pound is about 115 pounds ... Excuse me for this little error , I didn't see it before now ....

My partner and i went looking for new helmets, and he is thinking about getting a rossi helmet, but can't decide between the two shown.

I am aiming for an open face, such as the ferrari, or the rossi openface with all the animals on it.

Mine is a BOX helmet too.

At £20ish I can afford to replace it after every off, so much so that I'm on my 3rd in <18months, but then I ride like I stole it.

It is a ECER-22-05, so it is still a good helmet.

No point hanging onto a helmet that has taken a bounce just because it cost a fortune.

Edit: My first off convinced me FF was the way to go, looked at the damage and thought "shit, that could have been my coupon!"

Wow.. C2... very nice. My dad had one, and he had problems with it misting up, and because of the mist, the anti-fog layer would start to peel on the visor. He returned 2 visors, and only on the 3rd did Schuberth themselves admit to a faulty product, i.e. all the visors had this issue.

Have you had any issue with the visor getting damp and then the fog-proof film layer peeling off?

LOL to that...

I've got to admit, you might be on a 50cc (I rode with a Caberg Downtown, 110 pounds for a bit until some guy wrote it off), and most accidents you have yourself might be fine, e.g. you underestimate the water on the road and you've got cheapo tyres. But it's not about how you ride. Well, it is, but it's also about how other people drive.. . they may not see you, or there might be a stolen car on the opposite side of the road, and youre filtering, he has to avoid an old lady stepping out into the road, and goes right into your path whilst youre filtering... you're stuffed mate.

Don't ride like an idiot (which I sense from your post) too often, sometimes a bit of speed is nice, especially going round a corner in the country, but in towns just be careful of your surroundings. I used to ride like a real dick on my delivery job (I delivered chinese food for a month or so), i never had any issues, a few months after i left, going down the same neighbour I worked in, an old man came out of a road a bit slow, i was doing 35-40 on a 30, and i hit him, very minor damage. But the moral of the story, is don't ride like a dick, because one day you WILL pay for it, the hard way. Get yourself a decent helmet, e.g. 80 pounds+ and look after it, use the helmet bag to protect it when not in use.

It's not a matter of "oh it's just me, if I get hurt, it'll just be me and its my own fault". You might hurt someone else as well, and don't forget your family.

Sorry for the over-serious note, but I don't want you to learn the hard way. I've had a number of accidents, either alone or involving others, and I am a much more careful rider now because of it, I always stick to speed limits, and i will admit, i was very stupid in the past when I first got onto 2 wheels. A helmet does help if you slip up.

I'm glad you brought this up. I have been using an open helmet for 3-4 years, and it's been fine, but I know a FF helmet is really safer. The problem is that I wear glasses and can't get the darned things on and off with glasses. I can barely get the open faced one on and off.

I see several responders also wear glasses, and wonder if you have any suggestions for me. My dealer just told me a few days ago when I was looking at helmets that I have "fairly wide" glasses and to not bother looking at FF helmets-none of them will work.

Comments?

Oh, BTW- I dropped mine scoot in the driveway just moving it, and thankfully had my helmet and armor-jacket on or I would have had a concussion, plus. The scoot pulled me over with it ,and my head hit the ground before any other body or scoot part.

I have 'big' glasses, and find I can't wear a FF helmet. However I can wear flip-front (modular?) helmets just fine. The cheek parts of these can be pulled open enough to get it on while wearing the glasses.
