I didn't grow up when folk music was hugely popular but after listening to many throughout the years, I realized how much powerful (and in most cases at that time, political) the lyrics are. Her voice and their music emphasized the songs they sang.

Peter, Paul, and Mary were one of my favorites, ever. Mary will certainly be missed. I had heard about her death early this morning, but just hadn't gotten around to posting it. Thanks, Rex, for letting everyone know about this sad news.

I grew up with Peter, Paul and Mary and loved their music. I've been listening to it most of the afternoon and watching videos on youtube. (I should really have been working ...)

Mary was a wonderful artist and activist and their songs bring back a lot of memories of the 60's ... both the good times and the bad. My mother thought the trio were a bunch of "beatniks" and was quite distressed that I had all their albums. She thought I would become a beatnik too I was a bit of a hippy ... but not a beatnik!

She will be missed!

Mary was one of my heroes growing up. A strong voiced woman who seemed so self assured!

It was their music along with other great folk artists that made me wish I had lived in that era just to experience folk music for the very first time.

I saw PPM in concert in 1965 and it was the best show I've ever seen, ever. Her voice was liquid, and she had 10,000 fans mesmerized. She will be missed.
