After a week of backing and forthing between Piaggio, my dealer and myself ... a Piaggio tech finally managed to contact my mechanic and between them, I hope they have figured out what the problem is. The dealer is sending a new CDI and master key.

I have no idea if this will solve the problem, but I have to say that both Piaggio and my dealer have been very responsive to this problem and are doing all they are able to help me solve it ... long distance. Hopefully, I will have the new CDI by Wednesday and will know if this does the trick or not.

Keep your fingers crossed for me! It's killing me to look at my forlorn little scooter just sitting there doing nothing. I can tell he wants to go for a ride and kick up his heels a little! I am too much of a wuss to take him out on the road. Stalling in traffic is not my idea of fun and after almost being rear ended once ... that was enough for me!

New CDI (fully updated) does seem a good idea. Here's hoping it does the trick.

Well, I have my fingers crossed but here comes the really dumb newbie question ...

What the heck is a CDI and what does it do? I haven't a clue!

It is variously called the CDI, ECU, MIU, Immobiliser - and does all those jobs in one package.

CDI Capacitor Discharge Ignition
ECU Engine Control Unit
MIU - possibly an Italian TLA (Three Letter Acronym).

Probably your vespa LX i.e. have a lambda probe problem. Usually with the i.e. injection when the idle is unstable or stall, the lambda probe is broken or damaged. It coul to be.

I hope that will fix your new LX, I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to have a new scooter and not be able to ride it.

Well, I'm trying not to think about it too much. After all, this is exactly the reason I wanted two scooters in the first place. If one breaks down, I still have the other one as a back up! I just didn't expect to have a problem right out of the packing crate!

Hopefully, they will get it sorted out and Buzz and I can spend next weekend terrorizing the unsuspecting citizens of Tortola before my nephew gets his grubby hands on him in mid October!

My theory to the tee! Two scooters in case breaks down or one is in need of maintenance. May I ask what exactly is your scooter doing? Mine is acting up as of late and we are trying to figure out the problem. I'm thinking my coil is going. My dealer said that he had a bv (my scooter model) do the same thing mine is doing earlier this summer and a new coil fixed the problem. Of course they tested it before just replacing the coil. I did some tests on it last night after it "acted up" and it has run perfectly since . I put about 50 miles on it since last night without a peep.

Thanks- Bob

There is a thread here somewhere recently here that tells it all. May I gently suggest *you* look for it instead of asking others to do the homework?

Hi Bob ... as the title of the thread suggests, it stalls at idle. That's it, nothing more.
