I like the style of the bikes that Scooterworks shows in their catalogs (VBB, VBC) and I have considered one of them. Anyone have experience/knowledge of these refurbished bikes from Scooterworks?

I have also considered the Stella, of course...

or a local scooter for sale (like a P200 or 2005 PX150)

Could you'all give me some thoughts on the relative +/- of these guys?

Thanks very much!

EDIT:
I would like to use it for my short commutes, short shopping trips, some club rides. Not much high speed stuff.
I don't know how to do in-depth troubleshooting, but I do get my hands dirty on maintenance & repair tasks--I have rebuilt carbs, done exhausts, etc.
I just scooter along, I don't run the rings out of things. If I wanna get somewhere far away quickly I will take the GTS or even my car...Thanks.

Check out Craigslist.org or scoot.net and find yourself a nice PX125 or P200.

What's the intended purpose?

30mi. commute? Sunday rides in the park? Grocery getter?

What's your level of mechanical experience?

What kind of rider are you?

Etc.... the more information the better.

All of this will affect the relative +/- of any particular bike.

Find yourself a nice, local P200 to play with. They are easy to work on, and easy to get parts for (and cheaply)

Hook up with a local vintage club for help to find a good scoot and wrenching.

P range scooters are very solid and touble free if tuned up right and looked after maintenance wise like any vehicle the do need to be looked after. They are simple to maintain with minimal tools and modest mechanical skills. If you can fix a lawn mower and a bicycle you're set. They are in a way a combination of the two. A bit of basic electical knowlege comes in handy too.

I really don't think anyone with basic mechanical skills should be put off from any old scooter.

The P range will be better for daily commuting, older scoots are a bit slow in traffic. If you find an old frame with an updated engine like what scooterworks sells you should be fine.

I agree. Get a P series. That way if the wrenching bug hits you have a lot of upside for parts, accessories, and modifications.

Don't get a bike with 8" wheels.

If you want a part time job get a Lambretta. They are sublime but a lot of work.

do not buy those bikes from scooterworks or the other websites that sell "refurbished" vbb and supers. they are frames from india that have well over a hundred thousand miles, indian motors... for the same money, you could get a lot more bike. they are over 3500 dollars. in this economy, you could find a really nice bike for that price.

+1

You can jump on a really nice Rally 200 for 3-3.5k

Don't buy expensive junk from scooterworks.

Thanks Mate,

Plus it has the spark plug colour scheme, too rich too lean and just right.
