I've seen several members mention that they carry double-sided velcro in their pet carrier or top case. I seem to be having trouble locating it. Can someone tell me where to look? (U.S. source, please.)

Thanks.

I've seen it at both Ace Hardware and Home Depot. It usually is in a small roll about a half inch wide. If you don't find it there I would try a hobby store or a fabric store.

I use velcro cable straps. They are handy!

Wal-Mart has twenty different kinds in several colors for sew-on or adhesive.. even industrial strength. It's on the accessories aisle near the sewing stuff. I just bought some for my wife this week.

If you are looking for straps, Lowes had nice packages of short and long straps. they are grey on one side and black on the other and come like 50 to a bundle. They are odd looking in the package in that they come rolled into a large flat coil. They were in the Electrical Connectors aisle. It was the aisle by the contractors entrance. You can get smaller packs and other colors at other stores but the ones at Lowes were worth making the trip and were cheap if you re looking for functional and long lasting.

This package is 4.49 for 50 straps.

I saw it at Home Depot also.

In my store it was at the end of the hardware/screws/etc/ aisle, in a separate display. They had the roll of small/narrow ones like the previous post, but the one I was interested in was the very long single length of about 2" wide strapping. Just cut off the length you need. At that width, it's a very sturdy wrap!

I think the packaging said it was "contractor" type or something like that, just to emphasize it's strength.

As an aside, I had a hell of a time trying to find some of these straps last time I was in Japan. I looked all over for Velcro and couldn't find it anywhere. I only succeeded when I finally learned that "Velcro" isn't what it's called over there.

It's called (the immediately recognizeable and universal) "Magic Tape"!

REI has industrial strength two sided, in my local store. For strapping down packs, etc. I use it to hold a pack up to 30 pounds or so onto rear half of GTS seat.

Comes in standard and heavy duty, I use heavy duty. You have to replace it after a bunch of uses, but it still grips much much better than what most of us think as Velcro.

http://www.rei.com/product/3974.htm

1 inch X 9 feet, about $15.

Make sure you get the "heavy-duty" version.

If you are looking for longer pieces of Velcro or 'hook and loop tape' you can often get it by the yard at many fabric stores. You can double the length but sewing the last 3 inches of the standard tape or simply tie a knot in it. They also sell the little plastic buckles and "d" rings (plastic or metal). If you want a strap that is not all velco, you can sew a foot or two onto a standard strap.

Another option is ROK straps. I have heard great things about these.

I use the adhesive backed Velcro. Comes in two parts on a roll widely available at hardware stores. I cut the length desired and stick the two halves together.
