I have seen some correspondence on thsi topic; it appears to be a not-so-well-though-out engineering issue. I opened the head yesterday and dug deep into the display. I see a little connector under the digital clock but have no idea what to do at that point to get to the battery or replace the clock if required. I wonder if somebody can provide input.

Most folk decide replacing the battery is more of a PITA than they care to contemplate. Use your watch...

However, dismantling the dash into leetle bitsy pieces will get you there eventually - but at cost to future reliability?

Why the hell they didn't just wire it into the 12V feed who knows.

So, how long did your clock battery last?
years or months? I sold my ET4 after 5
years and the clock was still working by
the time I sold it in 2008. Good luck on
replacing it, Judy has the battery for you. 8)

Here is the thread describing my adventures changing the clock battery on my LX (same inane design on the GT, I believe):

What on earth were those Piaggio engineers thinking...

It has a step-by-step description of what you have to go through to change the battery.

Heading for 4 years on mine. So far, still ticking.

When it finally dies, I will wire in a small circuit to keep from having to change batteries ever again.

Have not seen the circuit but read the other posts on replacing the clock battery. Sounds like a pita. As long as you are undertaking the job of clock battery replacement, why not solder in a remote battery holder with a larger capacity battery for the clock? Just mount the new battery holder where there is easy access, as long as the battery voltage is the same there would be no need for additional regulators, resistors, or diodes.
