I have an old ET4 (1997) with a dead motor. I have bought a new one from an new Et4 (2003).

But the plugs are not the same. If somebody has the pin diagram of the plug on the stator, I'm very interested in. Or if somebody has made the same exchange of motor, info are very appreciated. For exemple infos about the oil bulb and connection. Thank you a lot. Yannick

it's doable as far as i know but not a simple matter to swap engines between the two. if you're already managing fine and just want an answer to your question, then don't read any further if not:

the engine and electrical setup differ between leader and pre-leader et4s.

the leader electrical system is different - specifically the ignition, charging, and immobilizer circuits. the CDI controls the choke unit in the leader engine but not in the pre-leader. i can't help you with the stator i'm afraid, we'll have to wait for DougL to turn up.

from greasy125: the leader engine has roller bearings instead of babbit shell bearings supporting the crank, and the design of the engine case is different to accomodate this. the pre-leader carb is a Mikuni, the leader engine uses a Walbro. the oil drain plug is in a different location on the two models. more discussion here Et4 pre leader vs leader ???

Wiring clues (but sadly no decent complete diagrams) for both can be found in the www link in this post.

more precisions
I have found 2 diagrams, one about the new motor wiring diagram, the other about the plug.
I need to know :
1) where are the colors and positions of the wires on the plug of ET4 (2003)
2) to find the electrical diagram for the old first model of et4 (1996-1997) to connect correctly the old wires,
and 3) to find a female plug - if somebody has one !
in one day, we have some progress, thank you for the previews & next help. Yannick

2 generators, are they compatible ?
I have some info about both generators (old one with 6 spools, new one with 12 spools, 150W). The new questions are:

1) how many Watt is the old one ?

2) how many groupsof spools have the old one and the new one (it seems both have 3 groups)

3) are 3 the groups of equivallent power ?

4) how to find the plug to connect on the new generators and 2 plugs to connect on the old plugs on the Vespa ?

5) Has someone done this before me ?

Ref for the generators :

Look for clues in the 'useful info' directory in the www link in this post... I think all the info is there in different places - a bit of a pain to piece together your own requirements I admit.
