I think the difference would be that some of us (yes me) took the hint and know that some of my old post's could be polarizing and now I am more thoughtful before I post. I love this community, I know you were not one of my fan's back in the day and visa versa however I have come to appreciate you and respect you, I think that is the point of this great place. Now I don't feel so bad about thinking Sarah123 was a dingbat. I kinda thought she and Yardsale were a little alike but I didn't expect them to be one and the same.

I'm going to miss YardSale ... he had become part of the total forum "experience". I was hoping to see pictures of his new chair.
Perhaps you could pardon him, that would get you promoted from "Petty Tyrant" to "Benevolent Despot"

I'll miss you Linda and I'm sorry you simply cannot (or will not) see what happened here. Your comments about "nasty stuff" going on were unwarranted and unfounded. You opted to defend an indefensible abuse of the forum. I hope you will (once again) rethink your departure but to be honest, unless you are willing to go with the flow ...

The comment was made earlier that YardSale was the target of bullies. That well may be, but his behavior over the past few weeks/months resulted in a wide range of MV members losing patience with him. How he chose to handle the disapprobation - by trying to game the system rather than by trying to clean up his act - is what resulted in his membership(s) being pulled
I'm sure MV-ers who only encountered his posts from time to time didn't see the problem, but those of us involved in threads where he suddenly became active would be inundated with off target, off kilter, and out of context posts. One, two, three....four....a dozen....two dozen posts later even the most calm and laissez-faire amongst us was getting cranky. And while it takes something pretty darn egregious for me to give a thumbs-down, there were times I was so exasperated that I was sorely tempted. On the theory he was clueless, I tried to gently provide him guidance and information on a number of occasions. (And actually had a member respond that I shouldn't help YardSale because he might stick around.) At first I used hints and humor, but that had no impact. Next I provided explicit information and friendly pointers. No change. Finally on Sunday - after a surprisingly lucid and on-point run of postings in a single thread - Yardsale suddenly went off the rails out of the blue, complaining that people weren't playing fair because his karma was still negative when he'd been "good" for while. After I questioned who wasn't "playing fair" he responded that his message was for jess or jimc ....neither of whom had ever participated in that thread. So I explained why his message was aimed at the wrong audience...and his response was so appropriate that it made me wonder - and not for the first time - if his entire online persona was in fact a conscious construct. It's unfortunate he tried to game the system rather than learning a bit of self-control, but I honestly do believe he earned what happened.

While it is against the forum rules and shouldn't be done i do find it interesting that as Sarah people were kinder to him. He might of just proved the point he was trying to make. I think we should learn from this and really not gang up on people. If you don't like some one don't read any of their stuff. I'm sad that it had to end this way and that it took jess's time to research what happened. Just my thoughts

Well dup log-ins (we call them sock puppets at another board I moderate) are strictly against the rules and a banable offense, but I kind of feel sorry for him. I haven't been here as long as most of you guys, but he seemed harmless. I was surprised that he stuck around as long as he did despite the thrashings. Usually members like that leave on their own unless they have real problems.

As a recovering jerk poster and a previously often banned 3 year member I'm proof that MV is truly a forgiving place. Due to the kindness displayed here I am aware of the painful self realization that must go on for someone who is being a genuine list asshole to change. I'm also aware that any real community will have citizens/members/posters sporting all sorts of pathologies. My clumsy way of first saying thank you, and a prayer that we continue to afford the opportunity to help and allow change.
Please forgive my 'hallmarkian' response....

And from my observations the majority of MV-ers were NOT "unkind" to YardSale. Frustrated and annoyed, sometimes a bit terse, but most folks tried their level best to ignore the constant provocations, respond politely, and carry on as normal. And that does say "a hell of a lot" about MOST of the people here. As to the suggestion: judy wrote: If you don't like some one don't read any of their stuff. It would have been preferable to see YardSale learn some "netiquette" and evolve into a solid community member. He was given ample opportunity to do so. Sadly, for whatever reason, he was unwilling or unable to. Edited to correct typing errors. ⚠️ Last edited by QuipMC on UTC; edited 2 times

I kinda always thought of Yardsale as the guy on the street corner who hangs out and rants and mumbles, but occasionally comes up with true flashes of artistic beauty and insight.
I seriously think he has a behavior/cognitive dysfunctional issue. Bipolar? Aspergers? Yes, he was annoying. Yes, he was weird But he added an odd kind of character to the place and an element of total chaos that amused even as it made me say "WTF" most of the time. Sort of like the five year old at the dinner party who blurts out all the stuff adults are saying to each other in private, but won't repeat face-to-face. |

Families may may have quirks, they may disagree, they might get on each other's nerves at times, but a family is still a family. I'm not mistaking MV for my family, it's just an illustration. But really....where else are you going to go? This is by far still the best forum relating to Vespas on the internet. You can get mad and take a break for a while, but sooner or later, if you are a vespa aficionado, you will be back. |

QUIP people are not always so kind to new people either. I will disagree on the unkind because some were. It takes all kinds to create a community and altho his comments were out there sometimes he never jumped on anybody. It's just sad and that's just the way i see it.
