Hi all, this week I'm stripping paint and cleaning and stripping the front end of my Vespa. I am trying to keep things original and was wondering about factory finishes.

What is the factory finish for a 1960 VBB front hub, hub mounting, front spring and front fork?

Someone has used a lot of annoying silver paint on mine and I'd like it to look more original.

Thanks all,

Charlie

The front fork tube was body-colored... but the fork knuckle, dampener and spring were the silver color. Also note the centerstand and flywheel shroud should also be this color.

If you want the real deal color, i have the paint code for it on my website ( in my sigfile ). You could even go so far as to have a local shop mix the paint into a rattle can for you, shoot it yourself, and then hit it with some rattle can clear coat to keep it safe.

Thanks Eric. I think I'll probably use an off the shelf silver rattle can on mine. Just to confirm what I think the picture is showing me, the hub/brake carrier with the cooling fins on it is also body coloured?

Thanks,

Charlie

Ok...both halves of the WHEEL is body colored.

if you were to remove the wheel, you'd be looking at the brake drum. That is silver colored. You can see the little circular window of it in the center of the front wheel rim there, in the pic.

Same with the brake drum on your engine - must also be silver.

Thanks again. The hub has its original silver on at the moment. This week is stripping and painting week and I'll repaint the silver bits and leave the wheels to go with the body and fork tube for paint when I have decided on colour.
