I recently bought a used LX 150. It only had 600 kms and was basically stored since the previous owner bought it in '07. It seems to run well except for when I first start it in the mornings. For the first 2 minutes or so the whole scooter shudders, as if the belt is slipping or the clutch is not engaging. It only lasts for a couple of minutes, then it seems to settle down. After the problem settles down, the ride seems to be fine until the next time I start it after sitting overnight. Any help as to what I should look for - or have the mechanic check out - would be very much appreciated![/b]

If you are a young guy who grew up with fuel-injected vehicles, you need to realize that a carbureted engine like on an LX needs a couple of minutes to warm up before it will run smoothly. On the other hand, if it is the clutch that is shuddering, not the engine, you need to blow the dust out of it and/or de-glaze the inside of the clutch bell with some sandpaper (the latter is doubtfully needed with a nearly new scooter).

Hi LX guy and welcome to MV!

I bought a used LX to use when I am visiting Toronto and it is a 2007 as well. Before using it, I had the fellows at motretta give it a tune up and a full once over. I had no problems at all.

It could be something as simple as stale gas or condensation in the system. I would take it to Motoretta or any other dealer in your area and have have a full tune up done. If it only has 600 kms on it, I would think it is nothing too serious. Just take it in and have it looked at.

LXs tend to rattle when first starting out - almost like there are pebbles in the transmission. I believe that is normal. Still, if it has been sitting for a while, it would be a good idea to have a mechanic give it a look to ensure all the mechanicals are working properly.

Maybe some gas stuff might help. I don't know what it is called.

Hey LX Guy, welcome to MV from another Torontonian Since the bike has been sitting around and not being used on a regular basis I would worry about the gasoline. Gasoline as it ages can "go bad" resulting in particulate matter in the fuel. This particulate matter can clog up the fuel lines and carburator. You can go to Canadian Tire and purchase Seafoam and add that to your gas tank to see if that helps with the smoothness of your scooter engine. Doing so certainly wouldn't hurt.

Wow thanks for all of the suggestions. I think I'll start with the Seafoam and hope that works. If not I 'll move on to the mechanical options.
