Hi guys, I'm pretty new here so bare with me. I used to ride a 63 vbb before it was stolen. well here I am 10 years later and finally replaced it with 61 VBB. I don't remember how loud it should be when switching gears. It makes a pretty loud bang when shifting. can this be a sign? Thanks

New engine or new rebuild? Could be the cruciform is very unworn and will shift a little more easily when it's worn in a bit.

Is your clutch adjusted?

If you are at a dead stop with the clutch pulled all the way in and you give it gas will the scooter creep forward slightly?

If so you need to tighten the cable. May want to tighten the cable a bit and see if that alleviates the problem.

But yeah, they do tend to "clunk" a bit, but too much is clutch and/or cruciform.

Thanks guys, the clutch is fine, I just was concerned about the loud clunking. Other than that it runs fine. I feel better now about riding it. Thanks again for the responces. J.

The fact that vespa engines are in constant mesh means that there will ALWAYS be a clunk of varying degrees.

The cush gear that's built into the primary drive is meant to sort of absorb SOME of this... at least enough that the engine doesn't rip itself apart.
