Last night I got out to a flat spot, marked a spot 28' in front of me with a white jar, and got back on my scoot. Took my measuring tape and measured up from the light to where I could see the white jar, and it was only 9.5". Is this the right way to measure what size screen I should purchase? Will an 8" flyscreen be enough?

Surely I'm measuring wrong....because the mid size is like 13" and the tall is 22". I like the hand covering of the tall, but I like the look of the small flyscreen.

i have never heard of that measuring thing before, but personally if i was to choose a wind screen i would get a mid size, from what i hear it will push the wind just over your head, and also not "take away" from the bikes apperence. i used "take away" in meaning if you don't like the windscreen look not trying to cause a hissy fit. but someone will post a review of a mid screen for you, and i think it will give you the coverage you want and still be smaller. good luck

Well, before I saw this, I went ahead and ordered the Vespa small size. Someone had posted it's easy to switch between the two OEM ones (mod and tall). If the small doesn't work for the winter, I'll get the large and cut it down (I do like that it covers the hands) but for now I'll try the small first.

A screen height of 5cm (or ~2" for you folks still using the old British measurements of yore ) below your eye level while sitting comfortably is often cited to be an ideal height to allow air to go over your head while allowing good visibility over the screen when needed.

See the post I did on the Vespa windscreen here: Tall Vespa Windshield Cutdown...

There are many posts on windscreens. I've been using mine for several months and its perfect.
