I recovered my stolen and wrecked scooter. It's running well enough to get by until I settle up with insurance. The nut on one of the exhaust studs is gone. The other stud is missing as well. It rattles like there's no tomorrow.

Any of you happen to know the size on those nuts?

Thanks

They come off w/ a 10 or 11mm socket. How'd they get those off? They're a pain!

Don't get a replacement from your hardware store, you won't find the proper ones. Get them from your Vespa dealer, and they also know what size you need.

The missing stud is the bigger problem. Did it just rattle out, or did it shear off? The latter would be a major bummer that can be fixed, but will cost. Make sure the insurance is informed.

If you're referring to your S150, they are 7mm copperized nuts. They are virtually unobtainable in the US, except through dealers.

You can purchase them from Beedspeed in the UK, though:

I've purchased a handful of these in the past, well worth having extras on hand.

Thanks guys. I'll get the proper hardware if I am able to keep the bike. I figure the insurance company is going to take a few more weeks to settle. For now, I just need to slap a nut on to keep the rattle quite.

A while back I marred up the outsides of those 7mm copperized exhaust nuts on the LX.

I went to the hardware store and just got something similar that fit. However they were not copperized?

Does it make a difference? Should I order the proper nutz and spend that fun fun frustrating time trying to get those little buggers off just to put on the goldy nutz??

Please advise

I'm surprised you were able to find something at a US retail store that fit. I've never, ever been able to find 7mm hardware locally, and it's even rare for US web-based outfits to stock it. Are you sure it fit?

I think the point of the copperization is to prevent corrosion and seizing, although I could definitely be mistaken.

yeah they did fit. I went to a rather large old school Hardware store in Glendale called Virgil's. They have loads of stuff and plenty of 97 year old guys there to help you find exactly what you are looking for.

Took us awhile to find something, but we finally did. I have to use a different socket now (IIRC I now have to use 11mm whereas it is 10mm stock) as the outside is a different size.

Interesting. Well, if it fits, it fits. Replacing it is probably unnecessary, given your location.

Also, if the stud is "missing" it's most likely broken and that's not an easy job so make sure the insurance covers that.
