Sorry if this sounds like a rant. At 12k miles the speedo on my GT failed and was replaced under warranty.

Now a few years down the line the tracking on the back of the replacement has failed. I only found out what tracking was twenty mins ago - the copper wiring that runs around the plastic film at the back of the speedo that carries the current to the bulbs and clock.

This means that while the rest of the unit is in perfect working order, one indicator lamp on the dash for the left turn signal is failing to illuminate. In the UK this is an MOT failure. Cost of fix - £131 for a whole new dash pod - and that's if I fit it myself.

To top it off the Piaggio Customer service number is no longer active and there are no second hand dash pods on ebay.

I suppose it's the sort of problem you just have to deal with when you own a five year old scooter.

Thoughts/advice much appreciated!

Soldering iron and a bit of wire? I don't know what the board looks like, but you should be able to fix it relatively easy mate!

Years ago we would use a rear defroster repair kit like this to redo the trace:
http://www.frostfighter.com/prt2100.htm

Note I haven't used this product- I'm just showing it as an example.

The short length of the repaired trace means increased current draw or heating isn't an issue.

Good luck with it!

You can "hot wire" it. I have done this on my ET4. Trace the track from the mulitplug to the bulb, and substitute it with a piece of wire. You can take the bulb out lay the wire over where the bulb sits in and replace the bulb, which will hold the wire in position. No soldering experience rquired. Splice the other wire into the relevant mutiplug connection. You do need to check that the supply voltage to the bulb is full voltage and not stepped down by a resistor, if it is an led type. If it is a normal incandescent bulb, then no problems.

Brilliant, thanks for all the advice on this. In the end I had to fit a 2nd hand replacement off ebay for £40 in the end as I wanted to get it back through the MOT retest - 10 day window. Might try repairing the old one at some point.

Cheers!

David
