Modern Vespa

Well my loverly little ET4 looked like this:



So I decided (thanks to Wonder Machine's disgust at silver paint) to repaint her to some unknown colour....

In the boot of the car, ready to go to the bodyshop:

Hi Doug, so what colour are you going to do her?

Ssssh, don't tell anyone. Then paint it, and let me guess till I get it right

I changed my mind yet again this morning, so all bets are off! The bodyshop showed me an original Vespa colour used for a short period when the GT first came out. I had never seen the colour before. Keep guessing.

I went along with lots of colour ideas. Three different shades of orange and ford vision blue which is a vibrant metallic mid colour. I ended up being talked out of all of them for an original Vespa GT colour - daring plum...

I vetoed this tonight. It is being painted in an original Cagiva colour. Apparently Cagiva use Chrysler colours. I had a look on autotrader over here and saw the colour on the Chrysler PT Cruiser. Other than that I'm not telling. It's two weeks away. When I get the bits back, it then get's reassembled and brought back for some wet sanding and polishing. Hooray!

Looking forward to seeing the results, doug. Are you getting the glovebox done too?

I will keep the original "collage" box cover. I bought a spare!

Painted by the London Scooter Body Shop who specialise in Vespas. Now with engine, tank, loom and fork back in....

Doug likes to keep his Vespa on Persian rugs.

truly lovely. and a much better use for the dining room.

actually what you need to do is to relocate the lounge to where the dining room is now, and then knock out the bay window in what is now the lounge, giving you easy access to a lovely indoor workshop.

Can't wait to see that in the sunlight Doug! Looks stunning inside but I'm betting that (like mine) different amounts of light will produce slightly different shades of blue and possibly even a little green?

Rebuilding.... Two evenings slow fiddling and fettling:

I'm impressed that I was able to recode my keys on my new scooter. Rebuilding a scooter from top to bottom is very impressive! I wish I could wrench!

Looks great doug.... and you did have fun picking the colour.

The pictures don't really do it justice.

I've never seen metalflake like it.

I've seen smaller chips on a chocolate brownie.

I'm a little jealous if I'm honest.

Just the glovebox and the horn cover to go on now... Who knows it might get its first outing tomorrow.

I turned the power on this evening and pressed the horn and it blew a fuse. That's sorted now. Bloody conncetors. Then I decided, I'm going to start it and pressed the button. Nowt. No clicks. Nowt. Would have helped if I'd connected the plug to the back of the starter button. Anyway she fired right up once that error was corrected. Installed the lower cowls, the badges and the reflectors. Seat is on, bucket is in. Ready to go!

The surface is showing a complete lack of texture. It seems to reflect light, as well as being monochromatic. Is that what you were going for?

Lack of texture ? It's as flakey as the chocolate bar and as shiney as a new button.

It's a bloody amazing paint job and I for one am envious.
