Hello all,

In the last two days I have stripped off all the old paint from my VBB's wheels and front fork. Tomorrow I disassemble the hub and keep removing paint.

I snapped the spring platform bolt that holds it to the the bracket on the fork. Can I get a replacement spring platform? It's the spiral shape disc with integral bolt (now snapped!).

And how is the bearing race supposed to come off the fork? Is there a tool? Anyone got a picture?

Thanks all,

Charlie

I think some people use a heating torch then pound it off with hammer and flat head screw driver. It's sort of a bitch to get off.

Under the bearing race on the fork theres a thin metal dust cover.
You can use a hacksaw or screw driver to chip it out.

Leaving a grove to use a screw driver or chisel to start working the race up.
Beat with a heavy hammer until it respects your authoritaiiii.

Yeah, I have started to bend the thin metal dust cover out of the way. I'm not looking forward to hammering this one off as it looks like it's been there since 1960. Nightmare. I'll tackle it over the weekend.

Anybody know about the spring platform?

Thanks,

Charlie
