glad it worked out so well. Case in point why it is good to have a back up. I need to go give mine some loving tomorrow.

Got to the thread late...Like starting with the last chapter of a novel.
It's great to hear no harm to the rider and your scoot will be good as new. Hairy business riding on an oil slick. check dipstick. dipstick check. check. My pre-ride mantra now. |

No kidding, I just read this whole thread.......
First of all, I'm so glad that you made it off of the road safely, and how great that your scooter will be taken care of by what sounds like a GREAT Dealership! Secondly, I am learning so much from the MV boards.... who knew to check the dipstick? I had NO IDEA! ![]() It never would have dawned on me to include that in my "preflight check".... Wow! That will be first on my list from now on! Especially after a Service, which I just had on all of my scoots! I'm running out to my garage right now to check them. Thanks to all for your input, knowledge and experience, I look forward to getting to know you in the future! Ride Safe! |

New Engine? That's fantastic.
I wish I had a dealer within a hundred miles so I could develop a relationship like yours. We have a Harley/Polaris shop that sells Vespas, but they couldn't care less about those little scooters. I don't even think they have a certified Vespa mechanic. At least you have a stable of Vespas to fall back on. |

Super...casualty, fragile dipstick...Expeditious Service! (I think that's some kinda British word I remember hearing in my childhood) Good going Motoretta Eurosport! We're all happy you're happy Benny! |

I went for a long ride today. Thanks to you Benny, I looked down at my dipstick at every other stoplight. I'm glad that your Red Dragon will ride again.

Those were shocking news--and a fairy tale happy end! Glad it worked out for you that way.
As far as checking the dipstick goes, I change my own oil, so I also install the dipstick--tight. Every time I check the oil level after that, it is still as tight as I installed it. What this means is that if the dipstick was tightened once, it will be fine and won't need checking after that. (this goes for the stock plastic part. I can't vouch for the Jettin product). |

Been following this thread from the first post. Amazing that you can call for help on this site from the highway shoulder! Thanks for making all of us part of your experience, Benny, from the scary first moments to the ultimate best outcome. Sooo glad it turned out well.

Beautiful resolution to a tragic situation. Kudos to the dealer for doing the right thing but I have a feeling it helps that, Benny, you're probably a genuinely nice guy! This is an grand example of real life Karma.
I, too, will check my dipstick regularly. Thanks for turning your bad turn of events into a good learning experience for us. |

YOu mentinoed that a rod or something was bend and I'm thinking how does something get bent when you run out of oil unless something siezes. An then, every action has a reaction so what bent the rod. An then I'm wondering what else might have happened in there when it got too hot... Glad your dealer is workimg this otu for you. Best Miguel |

I am safe and sound and I will have a new engine eventually on my still to me new 300 Super. I'll get to break in a new engine again too. One funny thing though, I guess it'll throw off my service intervals now since the odometer is going to be starting at 1800 kms on a new engine. |

OMG, I cannot believe how amazing Motoretta Eurosport have been with this. I just got an email that my bike is done. The new engine is in and my Super is ready for pick up. Too bad I have a meeting after work so I won't be able to get there until tomorrow after work. I just want to say publicly if they are reading this, many many thanks. And to those in Toronto, you won't find a better place to get your Vespa serviced or fixed or to buy a Vespa anywhere in the GTA region.

Do your title documents need changing? Ours have the engine number linked to the chassis number and we need to notify our registration body of any changes... |

I didn't imagine that it would be this fast. Since this incident, I've been obsessively checking the oil dipsticks of my bikes, I've developed an OCD about it now. |

Benito wrote: I didn't imagine that it would be this fast. Awesome, a true masterpiece for making good on you. Kudos to them for living up to it! Don't get too concerned about your dip stick. As long as nobody else touches it, you'll be fine as long as it has been tightened the last time. If you can't avoid checking, maybe just make a clearly visible mark on it to see with one glance whether it has moved. |

One thing that I am curious about. Where did they get the engine from? Did they just happen to have a spare sitting on the shelves?

good news
I have been gone for 3 days and no computer. We are all happy with this out come, and if I were the dealer, I would be pleased also. I heard once that "the truth will set you free", and it seems to be the case on both sides of this storey. Motoretta Eurosport....... WELL DONE.

Now, that dealer knows how to keep a customer. And I'm sure they also know you will be telling many friends about their excellent service.
That will go a long way for them, and deservedly so. |

Got my 300 now. Had a lovely ride home in winds gusting up to 60 km/hr with misty rain. Oh, my scooter is so clean and new again. It's like riding a new scooter.
![]() Hmmm just thinking, I have to do my 1000 km first service again, but since my odometer is at almost 1900 km, it will be more challenging to remember when services are due. I guess one cannot roll back the odometer to make it fit with the new engine. |
