Modern Vespa

Well, its taken me forever, and I wish I had done a far better job, or sprung for a professional paint job, but the 74 Rally 200 got its first run down the street today.
It sat rotting in a garage since 1990, engine partially disassembled and the seat was rotted big time. Not quite there on the wiring yet after the conversion, but it runs great and even shifts!. Wish the shifter was a bit smoother, but I think I have it as good as it will get.
When I pushed it out yesterday, luckily I had not anchored down the Speedo, because it was frozen inside and spun with the cable. Couldnt spring for a new one at 150+ bux, so I took it apart and got it working again.
When I shot down the street and back real quick I had forgotten to push in the choke so no wonder it was smoking..
Today was actually two milestones. I have never even sat on a scooter, that was moving, until today. A few more days of tweeking and I will be done.
Thanks to all of you that answered my numerous quesitons and such. Now I want to get another one and do a better job.. Sic..

I have NO idea how I will get title stuff straight yet. I have spoken to the guy that gave it to me but he just moved so highly unlikely he will ever find the Pink. Im hoping I can use just a Bill of Sale at the stinking DMV and get the title squared away..

if it hasn't been registered since 1990, it will be out of the system. not sure a bill of sale even matters...

i wouldnt worry about it not looking mint ... you dont look down when riding you look round and smile alot ...................... enjoy

Yeah, I was just about to say, the day I set my heart on a beloved Vespa, whatever condition it is in, and when I've done a resto job on it (currently no Vespa, the ET2 was taken away after someone hit it back in Christmas 2008), whatever condition it is in, it will be my pride and joy. Even if I've given it a bit of a nasty paint job, even though I've not set something quite right, even though I might have been cheap and cut a few corners, if it rolls down the road, its good to go.

What's important here is that you've put in the time and effort into your scooter. It doesn't matter how much money you spend on it, because I know I'm a student for example, and money is hard to come by. But end of the day, your scooter is something you've worked on and something you've brought back to life, so enjoy it!

n if you want it to look all nice n tidy theres always rattlecan paint

Just ask the previous owner for the old registration and bring it with you to the DMV. They will just use the old number of of it. I did it.
